Before I read the text and had just looked at the pictures, my immediate thought was rat terrier/beagle mix

There are a few people on here who have that mix and they may chime in as well.

So enjoy that nose and the snuggles!

Welcome to the site, please feel free to ask your questions and post your pictures! We love that stuff

Hi Sara, thank you so much for the response, it helps alot. Just to probe a little, and so I can understand, specifically, what part of Sophie looks Rattie and what part looks Beagle? I am not a fan of the hybrid mixes that are so popular today, there are so many wonderful, loving dogs wanting homes already, and I would have never purchased a "first hand" hybrid dog, but am very happy to re-home such a sweetie as Sophie. Your baby is beautiful by the way.....

Sophie is sleeping next to me on the couch in her snuggle bed right now, irritated by the keyborard noise....

Her nose is a little more square than the typical Rat, and her ears look like a mix between beagle & rat ears - that half stick-up/rest flop-down look. I can't really put my finger on anything else, but my bet would be Beagle/Rat or Beagle/Jack Russell. From your descriptions of her mannerisms, though, she sounds a lot like a Rat. =)

Ooo! Now thats a tough one. It's like seeing someone you know but havent seen in ages and not quite being able to remember their name but you're sure you know them! He may have something else in there, too.
I said it because he looks similar in the ears and face to another Dexter here on the forums. He is a beagle rat terrier mix. I wouldn't call it a hybrid though. I'd call it a mixed breed. I dont think anyone does a beagle rat terrier on purpose (do they?!). Not like getting a labradoodle or anything like that. Which is fine, everyone always says mutts are the smartest anyway

His ears are button which is common for beagles but they are small like a rat terrier's button ears would be. He has a bigger muzzle which makes me think beagle but the set of his ears, his forehead and his eyes make me think rattie. His tail doesn't have the normal white tip that a beagle would have and his coloring is off for a beagle AND a rat terrier. Its almost like its a moosh of both. It could just be the photo and maybe hes a high red tuxedo with sabling but he looks more golden which is not really a rattie thing. His paws are big but have a rattie look to them (in my opinion anyway, which who knows how much that counts for! LOL). Beagles tend to have huge paws.
Someone else might have a better idea.

I do believe that the beagle is predominant. I'm by no means an expert and rat terriers have a variety of "looks" to them.

More important than the looks, to me, is the personality. The little quirks Sophie displays. If she has the personality of a rat terrier, you hit the jackpot indeed. They are smart and easy to train. They love to please you and follow you around. If you leave the room, a rat terrier will follow you. They are not recreational barkers like some little yappers. They shed minimally (for the most part) and dont stink. They love to snuggle under the covers, take all the stuffing out of toys and do the neck breaking head shake to "kill" their toys They have very few genetic issues and tend to have very long lifespans, usually 14-18 years. And if thats the case, you have lots of fun and loving years yet with Sophie!

And of course, thank you for taking Sophie into your home and loving her no matter what she actually is! It takes a very warm hearted and wonderful person to what you are doing

I've been around way more beagles than I have ratties, so that could bias my eye, but she looks more beagle-ish, to me.  The set of her ears, her body type, and -- I can't really tell from the photos, but it looks like her bite might be slightly undershot, which I've seen a lot in beagles around here.

She's a very pretty mix, and has a charming face.  Bless you for being her forever family.

Her head and ears in the second picture look a lot like Beagle to me. And, I agree with Sarah that the feet look more rat terrier...they are longer and slimmer than beagle feet. Our beagle had round, fat feet and she was wee bit pigeon toed.
