Hahaha, guess what?

It turns out Isabel, our gray kitten we dropped off to be spayed this morning, is a boy!

What makes this doubly funny is of the three original kittens, we though the orange one was a boy and the black and gray ones were girls! We figured out the black one was a boy as he got older, and the family who adopted the orange one had their vet tell us he was actually a she (her name is Halo). But we thought the gray one was a girl, no doubt (because her, erm, his little balls are a third or smaller size than his brother's and we thought it was just, as Mom said, a 'tinkler').

And even funnier it took MONTHS of agonizing to choose their names (they are 4 months old and Isabel was only named three weeks ago) and now we have to go back to the drawing board on that one!!

(btw they're all done and all fine. Oh, except Devlin had worms so we'll have to treat him for that. But actually, since neutering is less expensive than spaying, we came out five dollars less with the worming than we would have if Isabel had actually been a girl!)

I'm 23 and living with my parents. Sophie is my rattie and Devlin is my cat. My parents have Radar (GS mix), Mallory (cat), Corwin (cat) and a gray kitten who needs to be renamed we thought he was a girl and had named him Isabel lol. Also living here is Cinnamon, my sister's cat, until she graduates college.

I think Bobbi meant he's been neutered, so he's not really a boy anymore.

About 30 years ago, when my mother's cat had kittens, we read that if you turn them upside down and you see a semi-colon ( it's a boy and if you see a colon ( it's a girl.  Not sure if that helps.

Yep the colon vs semi colon is what I always went by....easy to tell that way. I'm guessing maybe this litter was extra furry hence the difficulty?! LOL

Same thing happened to us. We got a kitty who we named Katie only to find out the kitty is a boy. His name is now Casey.

That happens alot with kittens. I was given a russian blue one time. I was to it was a male. All was good until Elmer had kittens in the storm Drain one day.
I hope this one kitten I took in is a male. Cant catch it yet. I hold the male which I know is a male. The other one is gray and yellow mixed. I sure hope I catch her before it is too late. I want to wait a few more weeks since it is so cold here yet. Will have to keep them in the garage for a few days. My hubby wont let me have anymore in the house. I have 3. I love the little male. He is gray and white and has a great personality. Oh well he will catch the varments outside. I feed them on the deck. We have them fixed with a place under my out Bldg. I feed them 3 times a day. Twice with warm food. Oh well will keep you posted. Just pray I will have good luck too.

02/09/2010 11:50 AM HAHAHA Guess what?

Years ago we got 2 baby rats (as in domestic black/white rodents) thinking they were both girls.  Nope...one of the girls sprouted "attachments" so we knew it was a boy.  Then the male started abusing the female (rodent domestic violence), he was really mean, so back he went to the pet store.

Then of course there was the time we got a pretty female rat (again...rodent).  Got her home and a few days later she was frantically hiding in my shirt and hair...didn't want put out on the table or cage.  Next morning there were 8 rats in the cage.  She was good mommy, too.  Never tried to figure out the sex of the babies as they went to the pet store after weaning.

Mary Beth, that is too funny! My boys had rodent pets (snakes too, but never did learn how to tell with them), and we were always able to tell, but there came a time when we were pet sitting the neighbor's hamsters. They were in separate cages, and we were told they were both females, so I never even checked (the boys were responsible for feeding/cage cleaning). About half way through the week, letting them out to play together while cleaning cages, the younger son yelled that the hamsters were "fighting". Then older son (wiser in the ways of nature) yelled, "Nope, not fighting..."

Well, the neighbors came home, the father said rather jokingly that he would be glad when they were "hamster free" since the girls weren't as interested as they were before. Didn't have the nerve to tell him that it may get more crowded in one of the cages....
