01/22/2010 7:42 PM NBT question

Question for some of you breeders on the list about Natural Bob Tails.   How long is a NBT usually?  I'm asking because I have a girl here with a very odd length tail - it's far too long to be a dock job but too short for a full tail.  I just measured, it's 5" long! The tip does not appear to be cut or if it was a darned good job of it.  The hair grows to a natural point.  Anyway, so I tried to find some good NBT photos of ratties online but having no luck.  She's a rescue so no way to check with a breeder.

A NBT could be almost any length. From just a nub to just having a fraction of the end..even just an eighth of an inch off the the end. I know some that the tail was still too long so some of the tail still had to be docked off.

Thanks Darla, I think that's what must have happened with this girl - the tail is like half length and appears to be nbt. She's 5 months old and a rescue so clearly not going to be docked to length! Anyway, it grows on you once you get used to it!

I've had a couple of fosters with weird length tails...I just assumed they were NBTs that were actually too long to be pretty. (I like either a full tail, docked or a short NBT...Mayfly has a nubby NBT and I love it).

My Winchester is an NBT, and his tail is about 3 inches long...A little longer, than one that has been docked.

My Waylon is a NBT. If tail were to grow to adult length, that's probably how long his would be. He was docked to breed stabdard in puppyhood.

09/01/2010 8:22 PM NBT question

I just had a litter of 10 pups.  The Mom is NBT.  5 pups had tails.  5 pups were NBT, each one a different length, so I don't think there is a usual length.
