We live on Eastern Long Island. Any ratty owners interested in a playdate?

We have one 12 year young ratty who has just lost his best friend to heart disease and he is feeling pretty blue. Maybe a get together of LI ratty owners will chear him up.

It would be great to have an LI group who can share tips, tricks and info on ratties.

Yep. I wanted to foster last year around March, even got approved, but my hubby balked. I'm still thinking about it though. We recently lost our Penny, mooies best friend, a rat terrier mix, who was a loving addition to our home. She had a heart murmer worsen this summer to a level 5 and just recently  her big loving heart gave up. So I'm kinda glad we waited to get involved in fostering. She had a lot of meds the last few years and we were ever vigilant in her care. She got the best care possible. Sometimes too many dogs ends up lowering the level of support, or the energy you have to give to each. We were exhausted at the end. Up most of the night listening to her to see if she needed anything. We are on the mend now, but Mooch is starting to exhibit loneliness. He is rubbing his poor little nose in his kennel while we are away at work for a few hours. Hopefully the vet can give me something to cover it. He seems happy enough, but he's missing his playmate I think. They were best buddies for over 6 years. Penny was a rescue from American Rat Terrier rescue and she did great here. We love these intrepid little dogs and at 12 years old mooch is a little achey, but still on high alert and able to bark at all passers-by. It's never dull or lonely. My husband has great patience with them and gets right down to their level. I'm the momma though when they don't feel good or they just want to sleep or to get special attention. I'm wondering if fostering would be the solution now to his loneliness. We could probably absorb two ratties easily. We're on eastern long island. I was hoping to find some more rat owners on LI to maybe get together. Off to the vet now. Talk at ya later. See my avatar which I finaly figure out how to add to see Mooie!

I remember you, Connie!! I was sad to see that your husband balked at the idea. I'm hoping he's come around. We are in dire need of fosterhomes. And I'm very sorry for your loss.

Hi Sue, I was hoping more Long Island Ratty owners would chime in, but alas, they remain silent. It would be fun to meet more ratty owners and have a play day. 

Mooch is still very lonely and I think it's time to risk our hearts and try fostering. He rubs his nose while in his kennel because his best friend is no longer across from him during the day. We are home every 4 hours to let him run and all, but we are not enough. Doggy friends are very important, different than human friends. He had a best doggy friend for 6 years and he is missing her pretty bad. She may have been 20 pounds to his 15, but she was as fast as he is and could give him a run for his money at play time. Rolling around with momma on the bed is just not the same thing. And she won't let me bite her ear like my doggy friends. Dogs ARE pack animals after all.

I see one lady is pack leader to 6 ratties. My my, ring leader too! How does she do it?

Ring me later tonight like after 7pm, or after 4pm tomorrow! I need to fix this even if my husband is gun-shy.

JENNROGERS  my name is Artie, i have 2 ratties girls. I live in pleasntville ny. My daughter lives up by you near the Poughkeepsie Mall. She has a lab that they take to a play park for dogs up that way.

 We don't have any that I know of down here I'm going to give it a try, she sead all the dogs are friendly, but no ratties.
