Krystle,

I am up in Buford area so not close, but glad to know you are here in Georgia. Patti is down your way (not sure of her RT.com handle). You saw my video of dogs the other day.

Krystal, we might be neighbors. I'm about 1-1 1/2 hours from Macon, 2 1/2-3 hours from Atlanta. You can list the town you are from, lol, I won't come and stalk you, I promise. I'm 12 miles east of Dublin Ga.

Ok, well, not "next door" neighbors, but closer than most around here. Looks like about 2 hours west of me. Maybe at some point this year(Fall when it's cooler) we can try and get a Rattie get together in the Macon area. It would be fun to get some GA rats together.

I'm in Georgia but way south - St. Marys. I'm right above the Florida state line.

I live in Acworth, north of Marietta. A GA get together sounds good.

I was in Macon Ga today.  Had I known that this area was there, I would have done a drive by and checked it out.  I didn't even think about doing a Dog Park search last night, but I read a couple reviews that say there is a pavillion here and water fountain for both dogs and humans.

Any of you Georgians know anything about this place?  Any body interested in a meet up?

I myself would want to wait until the fall of the year, but if some of the rest are interested, I'll try to make it.  Saturdays would work best for me.

I think it would be fun to get together here in Georgia...for the most part...Macon sounds like its center of the "majority" of those that replied...except St. Marys. I agree..cooler weather will be better. Late September or November. We'll just have to see...sounds fun though!! I actually talked to my step-mom the other day about it...but it would be wonderful to take the dogs to the GA mountains and stay in a cabin for a weekend. I would enjoy meeting you guys and all the pretty Rats you have!

I'd be interested too! The mountains are beautiful in the fall here, especially Red Top. I agree to wait until cooler weather for Macon, though.

Well, I sure wanna meet up. Hubby has an appointment scheduled in Macon GA for June 13th. I will check this park out and let ya'll know what it's like. I went for a walk yesterday evening with the dogs. Even with the wind blowing it was pretty uncomfortable here and the bugs are already starting to get bad. Oh, the pleasures of the south in the summer time.
What do ya'll say we go ahead and shoot for the first weekend(Sat is better for me) in October? That will give folks time to put in for days off if needed and such. October 4th?

Hi fellow Georgians! I'd love to do a meetup, too. I'm in Acworth, GA, north of Marietta. Mimzy's Mom, I go to Red Top quite often with our dogs; we only live a few miles from there.

Mary Beth, do you know any of the park service (Cumberland Island) folks that work there at St. Mary's? I traveled there quite often when I worked for the park service (my Master's thesis was all about land use history on Cumberland Island.)

Sara Jo - nope, don't any of the park service people but most are super friendly and nice. We had one guy though who hated dogs! Would yell at anyone walking their dog around the area the ferry leaves from....he'd yell at us that we had to pick up our dog's poo. But the thing is he'd yell BEFORE the dogs pottied! Haven't seen him lately....maybe he got transferred.

I'm headed to Macon today so I will check out this Dog Park and see if it would be a good place to have a Rattie Meet up in GA. I hope it is nice. I'm not taking Amos with me today as we are going to medical appts. I will get some photos and post tonight if the area looks nice.

I'm about 2 hours north of Macon (Canton).  I would love to meet somewhere.  October would be a good time because it wouldn't be as hot.   Sounds like fun!  The mountains are really pretty here in October.   Maybe us people in the northern part could meet sometime before then.  Fun!!

Ok, the park looked pretty good.  There is a separate area for smaller dogs and it is a good sized place, but there are no benches and not much shade.

Here's the entrance and the next picture is the small dog area. Macon Dog Park Small Dog Area The pavillion that you see is on the other side of the fence in the large dog area. Next photos are of the large dog area. Large Dog Area Bridge Macon Dog Park Photobucket There was not a soul in the park this morning when we went. While we were there, a K-9 police officer came by and let his dog run loose for a little while. He told me that the park was used alot and that he brought his own dogs to the park, not just his partner. The park was pretty clean. There was a few soda bottle lying around, but you'd see that in any park. I saw no standing poop, so people are obviously cleaning up after themselves. However, I noticed that Macon's finest(police officer) did not clean up after his dog. Shame on him! There is adequate parking for about 10 vehicles outside the fence. But if we gather on the small dog side, we would need to bring our own seating and shade. It might also be muddy, more so on the big dog side, if there has been recent rain. The small dog side seemed to be a little bit higher elevated and better grassed. So, is anyone interested? Maybe the first weekend in October?
