May 3rd is just around the corner so let's start a new thread with details.  Here are directions to Lions Park:

COMING FROM I-35

Take Midway Dr. Exit east.

Hickory St. (first light you'll come to in about 3/4 mile) turn right

You come to a stop sign at Hemlock Blvd, which is the street I live on.  Go two more blocks past the stop sign and you'll see the Lions Park entrance on your right.  Drive through on the park road until you see a covered pavilion just past the fenced softball complex.
 

COMING FROM HOUSTON

Take 290 northwest to Brenham.  Then take 36 north to Cameron.

Take 36/190 on into Temple.   FYI: 36/190 becomes the S.H. Dodgen Loop as you approach the city.  Stay on 36/190 all the way to I-35 (sorry loop is under  construction). Turn south (left) on I-35 and you'll go about a mile.

We MAY be able to get access to the fenced softball park, but no guaranteee it will not be in use and softball league gets dibs if they want it.  Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.  If that area is not availaable that day, FYI dogs in the park do not have to be leashed.  But per the Parks Board Office, owners are legally responsible and must maintain control of their dogs at all times.  No surprises there.  

I've maintained a list of who's coming from our original thread below.  Two members of Ratlover.com may join us.  One is VERY excited about the event.  Looks like around 10 people in all (plus any other family members they're bringing along).

If you'll indicate in this thread that you plan on attending, how many people in your party and what food/item you'd like to bring (you don't HAVE to bring anything), that would be great!

I'll start off:

Peggy...........2 adults..........hot dogs, buns, condiments, asstd. soft drinks, paper plates & napkins and plastic bags to pick up after our dogs.

ps.  I'm taking my X-pen along.  If anyone coming has one and can bring it, we could hook them end on end and make one big fenced off area for the dogs. This is what I'm talking about....... www.petsolutions.com/Images.aspx

FYI I'm heading out for the Jamboree Wed. or Thursday so I'll be off-line for around 6 days. Will check back in as soon as I get back.  After all, the countdown for the Temple meetup is upon us now. Looks like 10 parties and their dogs are gonna be there at present count. 

Looks like we're stilll on for Saturday!  One slight change, however.  The Parks office asks that the large pavilions be used by just large groups (like big reunions, etc).  That only makes sense. 

We started out with 13 people saying they could make it and I planned on going early to grab a pavilion.  But with recent cancellations, we are down to just 6 in our group:  me, Pam, Cat, Bonita (if still coming) and 2 eager people from Ratlover.com.  So I think I'll just set us up at one or two of the covered picnic tables instead of the big pavilion.   I'll have a sign posted.  Just look for my dogs.  Those tables are actually on the right, fairly close to the park entrance.  They're all covered tables, nicely shaded and also near a restroom facility.    Of course, we can drive/walk around to the horseshoe or playground areas, walking or jogging paths if we like.

Now if you folks would prefer to scratch it totally and do it when more members can come, that's fine with me.  But sing out fast so we can decide and anyone with motel reservations can cancel.  Otherwise, we're still a GO! 

Weather report for Saturday just keeps getting better!  SUNNY is still holding.  A mild front will drop the temps a bit.  Afternoon HIGH has gone from 84 earlier in the week, to 78, to 76!!!!  That's just GREAT!!!  Looks like we won't have to worry about us or the doggies getting too hot.    Hopefully that will hold.

I think Lance and I are gonna be able to rig up a fenced area for the dogs.  We're going out early and claim two picnic tables that are close together fairly near the entrance on the right.  Look for my white KIA mini van and Button & Zipper in the fenced area.  I'll also have a sign visible leaning on my car or somewhere.    PM'd you guys with my cell phone number just in case you get lost. 

Gee, Cat, I'm sorry you won't be able to make it.  I totally understand.  Was looking forward to meeting you and Noodles, too.    Maybe you can come to the next one.  Ya'll have a nice weekend.
