Took a leisurely drive through Lions Park this morning. It's even nicer than I remembered it. The girls seemed to like it, anyway. 
There are about 8-9 regular sized covered picnic tables real close to the entrance. They're surrounded by nice shade trees. Restrooms very closeby. Only thing is they're spread quite far apart from each other.
Next on around the dirve there's a huge covered pavilion set up also by those same restrooms, but it's really too big for our group.
On around the drive near the softball complex, there's a smaller covered pavilion with what looks like a small, new restroom 50 yards away, but it appears to be "not yet ready for use" as there's no signs on the doors yet. I'll ask the Parks people about that when I talk to them this week. There's a children's playset/junglejim right there, horseshoe pit, a few trees and paved parking. I'm thinking that would be the nicer area for us as it's sort of "off by itself" and we would probably not get too many passers by there. It would also let us all be at one long sheltered table for lunch instead of spread out at smaller tables in the first picnic area. I'll go on and reserve that one. Would also keep us dryer if it should rain.

| Sounds like lots of fun. I'm really north of Forth Worth about 1 1/2 hours.......so will be around 4 for me. I can bring horseshoes .......and will think of something else to bring. |

Sorry, I am just now seeing this...
I am an RN, but only have an associate's degree, so I am getting my BS in Nursing. I am planning to keep going though toward my MS in nursing-Nurse Practitioner.

| Just so you guys don't think I fell off the face of the earth.............I'll be off-line for about a week. Got to run down to San Antonio while my brother is in from Seattle to help Mom work up her income tax return. Hers is pretty complicated and at 84, she just can't do it anymore. May be able to check in once or twice during that time, though. Hope I don't suffer RT.com withdrawal symptoms. LOL |

I'd probably do the same thing if I were still working, Pam. I find I'm just tired out after any out-of-town trip, no matter how close to me it may be.
I found out we don't have to reserve that mid-size pavilion. First come-first serve basis. So I'll be going out there fairly early that day. If someone beats me to it we can always use the regular picnic table area. I'm going to take my 8-section X-pen along for my girls so my hands will be free when we have lunch.
I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. Hope rain doesn't raise its ugly head that weekend, but the pavilion table is covered, so at least that will be a blessing. |

Of course not! We don't shun poodles. My mom may be in town and come, too!  A member of Ratlover.com who lives over in Killeen definitely wants to come to our little meetup! She has a rattie and a rat/chi mix. And there's another girl in Wichita Falls (if I remember right) that wanted to come to any Texas MeetUps I heard about. She hasn't been a very "active" member there & hasn't responded to my post yet, so not sure about her. But I figure the more ratties the merrier! |

I can't wait to come to the meetup.  Even though I will be coming from Houston, Nat, I'm serious about riding together. We can meet in Georgetown... and take 35 N. It's not far from there... PM and we'll make plans. seriously.
EDIT FOR NAT: I will be coming from Houston, and I could still meet you in Georgetown and go on North from there, OR we could meet in Elgin and take 95 all the way north to temple.
BONITA: if you decide not to spend the night with your cousin, we could always meet up in NW houston, and ride together too. I plan on making this a day trip... I'm used to driving long distances in one day so no biggie driving for me.
I will have a Dodge Ram 2500 extended cab with a covered bed, so we can put whatever we need to back there... chairs, ice chests, whatnot... |

Is it to late to jump on this bandwagon? I'll be in Mart (near Waco) that Friday night anyhow and can make the 1 hour trip to Temple! YIPPEE. Im a lil hesitant... Zoey is NOT social at all. So Im warning yall now, she's not going to let you touch her or hold her. More than likely I will be holding her the entire time. |

| It's actually only about 3 hours and 20 minutes from my house to Temple, so that really isn't that bad. I am not sure if hubby will join me, but I am definitely planning to attend as long as everything is under control with school (which I anticipate that it will be). WOO-HOO, I am excited about a picnic!! |

Oh, that's GREAT, Kristen. Don't worry about Zoey. Zipper's anti-social when it comes to other dogs. But she LOVES meeting new PEOPLE! I'm sure she'll embarrass me, but I'll put her in the X-pen or just drive her home if she gets too aggressive with any other furkids.

I'm excited too, Pam. I never officially joined the official MeetUp.com Central Texas group (there were only 2-3 members on the wait list) because they weren't officially a group for lack of someone willing to be a group "leader" and I didn't want to do that. And here I am hosting a meet up!  And ..................I'm actually looking forward to it............... A BUNCH! It'll be nice meeting all the folks I chat with on RT.com.
Funny story........I had bought some little "prizes" for our event and they were in my spare bedroom in the sack on the floor. The girls are never allowed in that part of the house, but apparently yesterday, Lance left the hall door open and they snuck in there. I'm sorry to say the edible nylabone is no more.  The other non-edible items are all in tact, thank goodness. I'm pretty sure Button was the primary offender, as Zipper could only watch in jealousy. Button says...... to whomever it was going , SURE WAS GOOD!!!!!! I was so upset he left the door open  , but Button was most pleased with her treasusre find!
