Hi!  New here!  Have been researching Rat Terriers for the past couple weeks.  Wonder if anyone knows of any UKC/RTCA breeders in my area?  I will probably be purchasing a pet quality puppy in the next year or so and justs wondered have far I may have to travel to get one.

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Darla,

Seriously,  it's not that far, depending on WHERE in Texas, although I'd travel pretty far to get a dog.  I am from Dallas originally.  What city are you in?  If the pups look like that bad boy in the photo - WOW!  He is beautiful, or should I say handsome.  What a head he has.  Do you have a website?

Michelle

Darla,

Ohhhh, I just found your site at the end of your email and looked it up.  I don't have time to look at boys now cause at work and time to go home, but I took a quick look at the girls and they are BEEUUUTIFULLL!  And you live in Dennison!  I know exactly where that is.  When I was a kid in Dallas, we used to visit my grandparents in KC and drove through Sherman & Dennison at least twice a year!

I'll have to look more at your site when I get home.

I probably won't be getting a pup until next Spring though, but hopefully you'll have puppies next year.

Thanks,

Michelle Pinegar

Darla,

Actually, I saw the photo of your boy before I ever read your email and I thought, "That is one of the prettiest RTs I've seen."  I thought I liked the mostly white tri-colors the best becuase that was the color of my RT and my Grandparents' RT when I was a kid, but after seeing photos of The Rock, Empress & Beryl, I think I am besotted with the mostly black.  They are gorgeous.

I am interested in getting a puppy, but it will probably be a while.  I have a very elderly Lhasa gal (16+).  I long for a puppy, but I don't want to get one until she is gone.  Don't want her last months to be spent in jealousy of the new puppy.  She doesn't do much anymore but eat and sleep, but occasionally still wants mom to pick her up.  Her 1/2 sister died last year and she really misses her so I want her to have all my attention for the rest of her life.  But mercy, yours dogs are pretty.

I also have a little Dachshund mix who is 4 that I inherited, and he really needs a younger companion and I think a feisty little RT gal would be just the ticket.  He loves to play and chase and obviously my two old girls just weren't enough for him.

I've printed off most of your website and am keeping in my Rat Terrier notebook, so when the time comes, I'll be contacting you.

Thanks so much for the help,

Michelle

Good Morning Michelle,

My hubby and I kind of have a sickness for the full color coat patterns..lol  but..we love them all. I love the rainbow that a Rat Terrier provides. We, actually discussed the other day that we need to keep some piebald pattersn..lol That nice dark shinny black sure does show off well though.

It's so difficult seeing our babies getting old. I totally agree and know what you mean. Many of our babies are retiring this year and next, but, they will stay here. We can't ship them off to another home like some do. I am not putting the other breeders down for it, they have to do what is best for all, but, we can't. I would miss them too much and I think they would miss me too.

Have a good safe COOL day,

Darla

We got our rat from a breeder in Turney, MO, little bit of a drive, but it was well worth it.  He raises them on a farm.  Very good to them.  I'm sure I could find his info if you are interested.
