| By taking a rectal temperature and if her temp is about 98 degrees she will be having them with in a day. A dogs normal temp is about 104 and when their temp drops the pups will be born soon. I will be going through this again next month. We had a whoops breeding as well.......... |

| Okay, at least you know who she was bred to and about when it happened. Normal puppy gestation is about 60 something days, so you are getting right to that time. I know nothing about breeding other than the fact puppies are cute, so good luck and very good advice for next time is either have her spayed or let some other friends dogsit. : ). |

| Sounds like you will be having pups ASAP! Please have a vet on call just in case. You probably won;t need it but you never know. |

| Why was she not spayed? It obviously would have prevented this from happening. |

Please have her spayed immediately after. I understand it happens, but if it could have been prevented On a lighter note. The terrier I have displayed these signs about a week before. So I'll spare you the trauma (lol) and suggest just letting her be until you see a puppy. Ratties, from what I've read and my own experience with Sophie, are independant and self sufficient in child birthing. Keep a eye on her outside for fluid sacs, and puppies. Dogs will often strain, thinking they need to poop, then out comes a pup! Have scissors, dental floss (for tying off the cords before cutting, to minimize bleeding), and a baby nasal suction device (sorry.. it's early, at a loss for words). Otherwise, sit back and let mom do it on her own. |

It's safe to get a x-ray done. I wouldn't recommend a ultrasound. I've had a couple litters a year for the past few years, as a breeder. My last litter had a few complications, so it was very helpful to see the vet and get a good count of the # of pups we had coming. I hope this will help and agree that if you are just to enjoy her as a pet, the kindest thing you can do is have her spayed. Good luck! |

Well - as said here, at least you know who the "father" is......just curious but, what makes them think this?

And the other question is - why was this male not neutered? I'm assuming since they thought he couldn't impregnate her that they weren't breeders using him for breeding so..... Dogs that are spayed or neutered have less chance of getting cancer (mammoray, testicular) and unspayed females run the risk of getting pyometria which is a potentially fatal infection of the uterus. |
