After much research and thought my husband and I have decided that the Rat Terrier breed is the one for us! My parents have one and we love spending time with her and taking care of her for weeks at a time while they are on vacation.  Now that we have decided we want one, we can't find a breeder who is reasonably close to MN. Reasonably close for us would be WI, Iowa, South Dakota, or North Dakota.  We would prefer to meet the breeder in person and pick up our new puppy rather then having it shipped or doing everything over the internet. We would get a puppy from the same place my parents did, but my dad bought her as a surprise for my mom from a local pet store-this is something we don't want to do.  We don't have anything against pet stores we just want to be able to see where our puppy comes from.

Any advice or suggestions you guys could give us would be great!

Thanks-

Corina

Hi Corina, welcome to the site. I have heard of a small group of breeders called pocketpuppy.com that are in your area. They are all family or close friends and they are throughout Wi, KY and MO. I cannot attest to the quality of there puppies, but I did look at them when I was picking out my CoCo. I however live in Mississippi, and that was a very far distance for me to fly or ship a puppy, so I opted for closer, but the breeders were very helpful and friendly when I was asking questions for my first puppy. Maybe they will help you out.

You might also post over on Annie's RT Board.  A lot of breeders lurking on that list.  Perhaps a member there can put you in touch with one in your area.

Thanks for your help and suggestions everyone! I am really glad I joined this board-everyone seems really friendly .   I did post on Annie's page and received a helpful response from some one there. I will let you all know where we end up getting our puppy from.

Thanks-

Corina

Well everyone we brought our baby home on Sat. We got her from a farmer in Mankato who has been raising rat terriers for 30 years or so. We took her for her first check-up with the vet yesterday and she was pronounced in excellent health and acting just as a 7.5 week old puppy should. We named her Sadie and she loves her chew toys. It broke my heart to leave her and go to work yesterday but my hubby works on the property where we live so he was able to take her out and play with her during the day. I will post pictures when I get a chance. Thanks again everyone for the great advice.
