OK, SO I HAVE NEVER REALLY OWNED A FEMALE DOG BEFORE. GROWING UP WE GENERALLY HAD MALES, BECAUSE MY DAD DID NOT WANT A FEMALE TO HAVE PUPS. SO, NOW I HAVE MY MOST WONDERFUL PIXIE. I PLAN TO BREED HER LATER (SHE IS ONLY 8 MONTHS RIGHT NOW, AND EVEN I KNOW THAT IS WAY TOO YOUNG). OF COURSE I AM GOING TO HAVE HER THOROUGHLY CHECKED OUT BY THE VET BEFORE WE DO BREED. HERE IS MY QUESTION THOUGH- LATELY, SHE HAS BEEN HUMPING HER BED, AND ONLY HER BED ; SHE IS NOT BLEEDING, AND HER "TUSHIE" DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE SWOLLEN. IT SEEMS LIKE SHE SHOULD HAVE ALREADY HAD ONE HEAT, ACCORDING TO THE HUBBY ANYWAY, BUT THE ONLY THING I HAVE NOTICED WITH HER THAT WOULD INDICATE ANY TYPE OF "DESIRE" TO MATE IS THE HUMPING. AND AS I SAID, SHE ONLY HUMPS HER BED, GUESS SHE LIKES THE FABRIC ON IT OR SOMETHING . ANY HELP HERE?? DOES SHE JUST LIKE TO HUMP OR IS THIS A SIGN OF IMPENDING HEAT??? |

| I haven't had a female in a long time, but being around 8 months it could be her coming into heat. |

Humping is also a sign of dominance. However, at 8 mos. with no heat yet I would guess that it means she'll come into heat soon. It's very possible for a dog to come into heat the first time at 8 months. Just curious but will you be having all the genetic testing done on her for breeding? |

I PLAN TO HAVE WHATEVER TESTING NECESSARY BEFORE BREEDING. I AM NOT LOOKING TO BREED FOR THE MONEY, BUT I HAVE FAMILY WHO HAVE ALL FELL IN LOVE WITH PIXIE. IF SHE IS NOT GOOD BREEDING STOCK, THEN SHE WILL BE FIXED AND JUST BE WHAT SHE IS NOW..MY LAP BABY. MAINLY I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT SHE IS JUST HEALTHY, PUPS OR NOT. THE DOMINANCE ISSUE ALSO MAKES SENSE THOUGH, SINCE MY HUBBY JUST GOT A PUP THAT LOVES PIXIES BED AND WILL PILE UP IN IT ANY CHANCE HE GETS, BUT SHE WAS ALSO DOING IT BEFORE WE GOT THAT PUP, SO WHO KNOWS? MAYBE SHE JUST LIKES THE WAY THE BED FEELS, CAUSE IT IS THE ONLY THING SHE HUMPS. I THINK WHAT BAFFLED ME MOST IS I WAS LABORING UNDER THE ILLUSION THAT ONLY MALES HUMP. GUESS SHE PROVED ME WRONG |

Oh, no! I've heard of several females humping and my Mitzy Pitzy humps. She first did it to my whippet when she (Mitzy) was a teeny pup, only a few weeks old. Then she did it to the cat and then to our puppy Mayfly. Oh, and stuffed toys, too. And still does it even though fixed....she is very dominant. She also marks territory like a male.
Oh, and she humped Skipper when we first brought him home from the shelter.

Our Sydney humps all the other animals in the house but never any humans. So at least she does not thin she is more dominant then us. The other fur babies yes. |

Tinkerbelle is a humper too! She didn't start humping until she came into her first heat, but she hasn't stopped. She used to hump her bed, she humps a stuffed Donkey(Shrek movie), Dora the Explorer and my kitty cat Lily. |

| When we had Sadie, mom's male dog tried to hump her, and then a few days later she decided to hump him. She never humped anything other than Newly though, it was shortly before she went into heat. |

| Only my male has ever been a heavy humper, my females don't really hump at all. Weird. My male being male and a stud naturally humps. He is not a human humper. |
