| As of last Friday, when I wormed the little beggers, I had three 3lb pups, a 2 1/2lb. pup and two 1lb. pups. Same mom same dad, just different sizes in the litter. Last litter we had three big ones and one little one. the little one ended up being a 12 lb dog at a year. |
|
ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH OVERDOING Mom of eight, only three left at home! Pack leader to ten ratties: Maggie, Mysty, Berry, Simon, Ceecee and five puppies, Star,Sari, Bluebelle, Double stuf, and Snortie. As well as Ginger the Border Collie and a herd of turkeys! |

aww! Yeah I'm not particular to weight, I just have a really hard time visualizing what is what. Is 12 pounds small enough to hold/carry? I just want a travel companion that's small enough to live in an apartment and pick up/have in my lap |

My dog is 11 pounds at 2 1/2 years old. She is easily picked up and carried in one arm, although she's not so small that I would want to do it all day. I am almost certain she would fit under the seat on an airplane, people with bigger dogs tell me they do it all the time. She fits in my lap easily. We lived in a 700 sq ft apartment for the first 2 years of her life and she had absolutely no problems with that. What breeder in Georgia, if you don't mind me asking? I know a breeder in GA... |

| My dog CoCo is just under 10lbs and I have traveled with her on an airplane. I pick her up/carry her around all the time, and she is a perfect apartment dog. She is a type B rattie and has adapted well to being in an apartment. |

If you are looking for a rat terrier in Washington, you should talk to Susan Turner. Here's her website: http://imageevent.com/turndogs
She breeds for temperament as well as structure, and her dogs are consistently in the UKC top ten. I have one of her dogs, and he is great!!
He just went to his first dog show weekend, and came home with a Best of Show and a Reserve Best of Show. Not bad for eleven months! |

| Yeah I have considered rescue. My family dog is from animal control, and I plan to rescue dogs in the future. I just feel that as a college student, taking on her first puppy ever, I want to know what to expect: genetics, size, temperament, health etc. I actually went to a rat bone rescue meet up a couple weekends ago at petsmart and fell in love with the dogs, which made me consider rescue again... I feel selfish for wanting a puppy, and deciding to go with a breeder, but I really just want to know everything about my dog from day one. I won't be getting my pup till June, so I will definitely look into the dogs that are available around then, but most likely I will end up going with a breeder for this pup. I do believe that rescue is the best option though, and as I get older and have a more stable lifestyle I plan to rescue! |

I just do not understand? ...sorry milly who is the pup in your pics ....pup friends breeders or rescue?? |

I got Cyrus from a Washinton breeder...I can't seem to find the business card... Anyway, he's a Whopping 20 pounds, unlike the other two I had to choose from which were much tinier than him. But I carry him around. Yeah, he's heavier, but I don't think you would have any problem with a 10 or 12 pound dog. And even though he's heavy, he's small and travels nicely Congrats though! I'm excited for you! Puppies are fun! |

| oh no no not at all. I didn't mean that a rescue dog would be more work, I meant that I will have the time to take on more dogs when I am older, which will be rescue. I am a very responsible person and I have been researching and saving for this dog since summer. Trust that I will be the best owner possible, of course I will keep up with shots, vet visits, and training. I plan to be an animal behaviorist, as I am a psychology major right now and plan to go to grad school to pursue further education. I also work with infant monkeys, where I have learned a lot about training and learning methods. I also am a puppy sitter and have taught the puppy (she is 13 weeks old) sit, down, stay, come, and roll over already! Please do not get the wrong idea of me, I love animals and respect them more than anything, I just want to get my first puppy from a breeder and I don't think there is anything wrong in that. I will rescue in the future, like I said, but I don't think I should feel bad for deciding to go to a breeder. At least I am not one of those countless citizens who walks right into a pet store and purchases a puppy, not knowing where it came from and it's background. |

Oh the dog in the pic is my family's dog Buddy He lives with my family in Eastern Washington, I am in Seattle right now going to school. I can't take him up here because he needs a yard, he is very high energy! He would not be happy in an apartment, even with 3 walks a day. Plus, my mom would be sad if I took him! He came from the pound, we actually picked him up an hour after he got there! haha. We've had him for 9 years. He's a golden retriever/cocker spaniel mix I think... I miss him! |

Thanks Cyrus! I am excited too! I have decided to go with a breeder in Camas I think. I have talked to her a lot and she seems very responsible and in love with her dogs! She'll have a litter ready in June that'll be around 6-8 lbs Perfect for city living! Is that a rattie in your pic? All black! Sooo pretty! Mine may be a black/tan tuxedo, that's what the father is. Whatever color it ends up being, I am already in love! |

I go to the University of Washington in Seattle. It's a big school, about 40,000 students, but that'd be crazy if I knew him lol! I work at an Infant Primate lab. I do tests with them on cogntive studies (nothing mean or invasive). I do tests where they have to figure out what toy has a treat under it, discriminate between black and white blocks, lots of stuff! It has a lot to do with shaping and classical conditioning, it's really interesting. I currently work with 3 monkeys right now, 2 are pigtailed macaques and 1 is a long tailed macaque. They are so adorable and full of personality! Not as sweet as dogs in my opinion though... |

| Yup! His sisters were black and white tuxedo...he has about 4 white hairs on his chest and that's it! But I'm a college student too, and I don't think I could have chosen a better breed. I mean, I have to say that now, but I swear, I really mean it! 6-8 pounds is SOOOOO tiny!! It amazes me how many sizes there are for ratties. I don't think there is another breed like it! Is the anticipation absolutely killing you? It would be killing me! Are you going to get to see them right away in June? I'm slightly jealous now...hehe |

| haha yeah, the wait has been killing me!! I just bought a rattie book and already read it all. Now what am I supposed to do for the next 4 months??? lol. I get to visit the breeder in March, but my pup won't even be born yet! There will be some pups there though, and I'll get to meet the parents. It's only about a 3 hour drive from Seattle so I may go again before the pup is ready to take home, so I don't die of anticipation! |

| Haha yeah, I am just really excited! What part of washington are you from again? I've found a lot of breeders over the internet, but then it took a long time to figure out which ones looked the best and had the size of dog I wanted. I'll definitely fill you in on the development of the pup! Right now I'm just crossing my fingers that the pregnancy is successful! |

| I'm actually from Oregon. The Portland area, but I'm going to school at Oregon State. I found trouble in finding the right size, too. I didn't want too small because my brother's dog plays pretty rough and he weighs about 42 pounds, but then I didn't want a large dog either. But I don't even know how breeders know how big their puppies are going to be. I guess if they have had many litters in the past from the same parents, they probably have a good idea. Anyways, can't wait to hear more! Ya know...in four months!! Once the puppies are born, you'll have to start posting pics, too! |
