When we first got Alice I thought she had to be a chihuahua/terrier mix til the vet said she was rat terrier. Where do these bug eyes come from? I was under the assumption terriers had almond inset eyes. Is this the breed standard?

The UKC breed standard for eyes in the rat terrier is as follows:

EYES – Eyes are set obliquely and are round, small, and somewhat prominent. Eye color ranges from dark brown to amber and corresponds with coat color. Hazel eyes are acceptable in dogs with lighter coat color. Blue or amber eyes are permitted in blue-colored dogs only, but a dark gray eye with gray eye rims is preferred. Eye rims match nose pigment.

How big is she? I ask because some of the toys, Type B aka short-leggeds and maybe the mini-rat terriers have chihuahua in their family tree. It comes out more in some dogs than others and that might be where the "bug eyes" come from. Do you have a picture of her?

She is not a mini, she is as tall as my JRT but right now she is very thin. She is a tall girl.

I will have pics after the weekend but may need some help getting them on here. At work I can't really upload photobucket or anything. If anyone wouldn't mind letting me e-mail them my pics and posting them for me that would work.

You don't need to use photobucket, just save them to your pc somewhere and upload directly to this site.

To post pics directly from your pc to this site: Go to the Photos:Ratties Forum (just hover your mouse pointer over the word Forum in the top left hand corner of your screen and move down to Photos: Ratties and click). Then you will click on New Thread. In the next window you will Type in a subject and something in the message window describing the photos or whatever. Under there are three upload boxes. Click on the world "browse" to the right of the box and browse to the photo file's location. Once you have the photos uploaded that you would like to post click Submit. Please keep in mind the photo files need to be in .jpg format and need to be less than 125 kb in size.

We surely would like to see her
