Isn't he sweet?  He's not in immediate danger of being euthanized, but I was told the shelter is full and he's very scared and not likely to be adopted.  He's in Huntington, NY (Long Island).

No, I already asked.  I am SERIOUSLY considering taking him myself, even if it puts me over my comfort level.  I am a SUCKER for special needs dogs... my first Ratbone dog, Sandy, was special needs with nerve damage on her right side that makes her flop her front right paw and drag her hind right paw.  It never stopped her for a second!

Sue, go get him! I'm stepping over my comfort zone.....between 9/13 and 10/3 I'll have 7 dogs (3 fosters)....but I had to do it for the little teddy coming in from Ohio. It's just more noise when they all bark.....

Darnit! I knew I should not have read this. Why do I read these things? Now I'm sick over this little guy being in that shelter! Sue... what are the odds of a three-legged dog being adopted? Have you had good success with special needs dogs?

I'm working on it, Nora. I'm trying to find someone close by to go and evaluate him. I think if we can take him into rescue, he'll have a good chance of being adopted. You'd be suprised at how many people take in special needs dogs. It's very rewarding. You saw my story about Sandy, my first Ratbone dog, and my second was Sasha, who was 13 at the time and was scheduled to be euthanized before I pulled her from the shelter.

He's only 4, so he has many good years ahead. I'll post when I know more.

Sue,

As part of his evaluation, can you see how stable he is on his tri legs and if he is energetic. My Aka is a very assertive player and he and Taffy can do some serious butt fighting and trying to knock each other down (not anything vicious just rough and tumble.)

I have no idea if I can foster, I'd have to give it a HUGE amount of thought and consult with my mom. I have no idea how Taffy would react, she isn't real happy with other dogs but does okay at doggy day care. Aka on the other hand LOVES other doggies and will play till he drops!!

Also I would have to be home visited by RBR and be approved. I'm not promising anything right now, but this little fellow is just too sweet.

And if MB does work out a way to foster him, Plz route the transport down I-95. Get him to Fayetteville and I will get him to MB!!

Hey Cheryl!

Right now, he's still there.  I know the one thing I've been told is that he's very shy.  I don't really have much info about him, and nobody seems to be close enough to do a eval of him personally.

I will try to get more info and I'll let you know.  THANKS!
