Mardi aka Kasey's Mom posted this one on Ratbone Chat but so far no one is close to her.  She's scared and timid and that is a "turn off" for potential adopters.  She has until 9/6/08 or she will be euthanized. I will take her IF anyone can pull her or get her down here to me in Georgia (long shot, I know).  But if anyone closer would take her - that would be great.

She's a black and white teddy aka type B rattie.  She doesn't deserve to die just because she's scared and the shelter is full!  She is in Paulding County, Ohio, Animal Control.

More About Twila

Dogs adopted from the shelter come with DHP-PV vaccine, worming, flea treatment, county license, and your choice of a free micro-chip or $35.00 off a spay or neuter from the Animal Clinic of Paulding.

Most of the dogs in the shelter are here as strays. We post as much information about them as we can.

We welcome out of state adoptions and we are very rescue friendly.

Oh don't get me wrong MB. I know you are trying to help. That's not what I meant. I sure hope someone near her can help save her. It just sickens me how many dogs die EVERYDAY simply because noone wants them. It  shouldn't have to happen. Someday I'll win the lottery, buy a ranch and take them all. Someday.

She's about as far away from me as she can get and still be in the same State I, too, wish I had the money and means to save them all. Hopefully someone over that way will see it and be able to help.

Sorry, but I get mad about people not wanting to adopt dogs that are shy and scared! My Bonnie was skittish, shy and scared of men, sudden movements, noises etc, and still gets a bit nervous every once in a while (like last night at the dog park for some reason) but it doesn't make her any less lovable. She's as good a dog as any!

So, I just wanted to put it out there that if you're ever considering adopting a dog- be it rattie or another breed- don't automatically pass up the ones that seem scared and shy. Often they come out of their shell once they're out of the rotten situation their in and in a loving and caring environment. Bonnie has changed a GREAT deal from the day I brought her home 2 months ago. She does't shy away from sudden movements and noises like she used to, she's almost completely over her fear of strange men (men who are strangers too lol!) and she has gained a great deal of confidence in just 2 months time. So, just keep in mind that just because they're shy and scared it doesn't make them unworthy of adoption.

I hope this little sweetheart finds her way to Ratbones. I think she is beautiful even if she does have stubby little legs- lol! (I have 2 type A's- he,hee, hee)

I totally agree Terri! My Mayfly is timid and would do badly in a shelter...so many ratties would!

Wow, she really looks like my Oreo in the face, I couldn't stop staring at her. I hope someone can help her, I wish it could be me. Oreo is shy too, but she really loves people and always wiggles her butt at them. A shy dog can be a great dog for people...

I'm trying to find help with anyone! I don't give a crap which group can help her....I just want her out of there. I'm in contact with Ratbones and New Rattitude....maybe we could each pay half her airfare to fly her down here? You can have her...she'd be perfect with Yogi! Or if not I'll take her....I don't care who fosters her as long as she gets out!

Mardi is working on pulling her...we just need to get her to me or Diane (Yogi's Mom) as all the other foster homes are full...I'll ask her about getting her to Toledo's continental shipping facility. I know nothing about flying a dog but will chip in as long as I can do it via credit card....don't have any cash.

I have found (and joined) a Paulding County forum that has a somewhat active thread dedicated to animal rescue in that area and appears to have quite a few who either work or volunteer at the shelter that Twila is in. I've posted there asking for any direct knowledge of her and if anyone local might be able to assist. I'll keep you updated if I hear anything.

Sorry to hijak, but I'm in Paulding, GA and read about this website on our local forum. I was hoping to help, but I see that the Rat is in Paulding County, OH. Anyway, I am so glad to see a website dedicated to Rats! We've had our sweetie for a year and she's the love of my life.

Anyway, you all seem like wonderful people who are trying to save Rats in need!

Hey All...just got home.

So...anyone in that immediate area that can find out ALL the details? Like...if she is pulled, what needs to be done to get her here? Vet papers, etc.

Can she be flown a certain distance and then driven, via piggy back volunteer transports to Ga? MB has her hands kinda full (heheh!) BUT I'd be happy to help her/keep her until MB is free or we find her a furever home....(Rut Roh..again!)

ALSO..some areas like Vermont often have lots of foster openings for dogs in danger since they have very low euthanasia rates (low cost or free spay/neuter clinics equals very few shelter dogs in those states)

At any rate...I will also be happy to help  $$$ with whatever transport is decided upon...just let me know!!!

And MB...you probably KNOW by now what a sucker I can be...esp if it's a shortie like Yogi!

Trying this again..keep losing my posts...

IF she could be flown to Atlanta, or Bham Al,  I could get her..I will be an Hour and a Half from both airports the 6-16th.

OR..if a transport could be organized....would be a big one...Ohio, Tenn,Ken, NC,Ga.......whew! Flying seems easier...depending on vetting and pulling....etc.

Well...consider me on board whatever happens! (Yogi too! He likes little short-legged gurls!))

MB, I'm short of cash but if I can help transport or something let me know. Has either RBR or any of the others contacted you?
Let me know if I can help from down here in NC!

Mardi is going to evaluate her and then probably pull her next week. The problem is getting her down here....flying would be best given the distance and of course we're all short on money. And along with the flight cost (which I will pay for if I can use a credit card!) Mardi needs funds to buy an airline approved crate to ship her in.

And yes, rescues are involved!

Yes, please anyone in Indiana/Kentucky/TN who can help with this transport will be deeply appreciated.
Mardi aka Kasey's Mom went to see Twila today at the shelter. Poor little Twila wanted to be loved but was very scared...skinny, too, of course....Mardi is pulling her next week after Labor Day.

Yes, Twila is scared and she just wants to be held and loved.... she is a sweetie pie. and she has a lot of potential in her....   and I will be pulling her after labor day....

and i don't know if you plan on keeping her name.... but that name is from the kitten on 12 dancing princesses (barbie movie)  and i like that name...   so she's the princess' pet.

<~~~~~~~~~~I am in tears over this story. I can't imagine how scared she must be. It makes me think of my little Mocha in a shelter all alone. She was scared of her shadow when she first came to us, so I can't imagine how scared she must have been in that shelter.

I imagine Twila feels very much the same way. Thank you to all who are working to get her out of that scary place! I am way over here in TX, so there isn't anything physically I can do to help, but if there is anyway that I can help...I will!

There is nothing better than wine and chocolate!
