We have rat terrier that needs a home. We have had him for almost 41/2 years and he is a good guard dog. Likes to go for walks and be pet. He gets along with our Chocolate Lab mix, but our Lab just had surgery, and we can only focus our energy into one dog. He has been good to us. Serious dog lovers only please. Please email or call if interested, thanks. (253)266-3506

That's really sad... I'm sure the rattie wouldn't mind being ignored for a little while, as the lab recovers, compared to how much he will mind being abandoned by his owners! Sad.

that is sad why cant they have both dogs and give both of them tlc. just because 1 had surgery does not mean you have to give h im away, so does that mean if we have surgery do we give one of our humans away and focus on that one person? what is up with that?

Ok, does that mean because Sydney had surgery in June, sick in July, Anal abscess in August and I had to give her lots of extra attention tha tSonic should be in a new home?  NOT.  Sonic was a big help with Syndey.  I think he helped her receover faster.  I know he was there when I was feeling scared and nervous the end of May first of June when we did not know what was wrong with her.

They are family, you can not just throw them away.

Insane. Either laziness on the owner's part or just an excuse to get rid of him. The poor rattie would much rather be ignored than abandoned!

So often with these situations, what they SAY is the reason they're getting rid of the dog is just NOT the whole story, folks. I would venture a guess there is an additional, more pressing reason they are getting rid of the dog: behavioral, on-going lack of housetraining, tired of marking, aggression, barking. I just don't buy anyone keeps a dog for nearly 5 years and have been able to "focus their energy on two" for THAT long can't continue to do so if they WANT to! Just not buying it!

You know I hadn't really thought about it, but what you said about Sonic and Sydney made me think: what about the lab? I'm sure the lab and the rattie are friends. Now the lab just had to go through this horrid surgery, and is going to have to go through the stress of recovery, AND his friend goes missing?

I tend to agree with Peggy- I bet there's far more to the story here. Like they are moving and can only have one dog, behavioral issues with the rat terrier, who knows, but if they were good pet owners- they wouldn't be getting rid of one just because the other had surgery. Something is off.

i recived an email from these people today and this is what they told me

I know, but life for the lab would be much more fullfilling with the rattie gone. The rattie barks at passers by and I know thats normal but lab never barked at anyone until they met and he taught him bad behaviors. We took the l;ab to the dog park and he doesnt get along with others but he used to, so in his recovery we could re-train him. Not only that the reason he hurt his ligament is most likely due to the behaviors of the rattie. I think he would be much happier in his own area, no competion for attention. I know there is someone out there for him. Thanks for your concern though.

Sigh. Poor rattie. Sounds like if they'd take the time to train the rattie, there would be no problems at all...
