...an adorable rat terrier survives her impending doom.

On a whim I adopted a very sweet female rat terrier from the local city animal control on tuesday.

She had been there since the 11th and was pretty high up on the 'going to get euthanized if noone adopts her list'.

She immediately bonded to me and according to the lady at the AC, she was waiting for me at the door when I left to pre-pay for her spay/shots.

She's at the vet today and has to stay overnight for the spay surgery and I went ahead and had the vet take care of her minor case of 'cherry eye' as well.

I've always been a dog lover and my family already has 3 cocker-spaniel mutts but I've fallen in love with this one and she's like my little girl.

I don't have my pics hosted yet but here's the one from her adoption page.

Minor addendum - my family is moving out of the house (which will be mine on the 28th) and taking the dogs with them, so she and I will have the house to ourselves, and I'll be picking up a 2nd dog from the animal shelter soon.

(whichever one needs to be adopted the most)

That is GREAT! Good for you! Welcome to the site. I can't wait to see more pics of her. Have you decided what you're going to name her? Two dogs is even greater.

Congrats!  She's a cutie.  My vet calls that spot on top of her head (I had a foster that had one) a "kissy spot" cuz it's perfectly placed to give kissies!!

I have 6 - 4 are mine and 2 are fosters.  It's always great to see people adopt rescued animals, whether directly from a shelter or from a rescue group.  Welcome to the Ratty Family!

CongRATS, you have discovered two new things, your precious Amy and Rat-Terrier.com!  We have completely fallen in love with the breed after finding our ltitle rattie and this site has been very helpful (I seem to check it everyday!).  Welcome!  We can't wait to see more pics.

Those are the only two pictures I snapped before taking to her to the vet this morning. She is such a sweetheart it's really unbelievable.

She already won my family over and my mom has been teasing me about stealing her when they move out in a few weeks.

I'm not overly partial to rat terriers - I like all dogs and my next one will just be one of the ones that needs to be adopted the most from the shelter - but Amy is a real sweetheart and I don't think I could have randomly paired up with a sweeter girl.

I haven't even spent that much time with her yet but she's bonded with me hardcore - my mom was telling me when I left for work in the morning that she went in my room and went to sleep on some of my clothes after waiting at the door for me for a while.

Personally I just feel great being able to 'change the course of things' so to speak by rescuing her - she will get to live out a happy, luxurious little life now.

She is adorable. I did the same thing, that is, adopt a rattie randomly from the shelter. I wasn't overly partial to ratties before, but they are growing on me... And my mom loves little Sophie! She has said she wanted an italian greyhound when we all grew up and moved out (we're all grown, but I just graduated from college and dont' have enough money to stay elsewhere so I moved back in, and my younger sister is in college and calls this place her permanent address for the next three years). But now she's falling for Sophie and thinks that a rattie is what she really wants. Italian greyhounds went into their make up, and she decided to do a little more research into IGs and decided that the personality she always pictured in her IG was actually a rattie personality, and they can be about the same size, of course. Mom says if I ever can't keep Sophie she has a home with them... lol....

Welcome to the site, from a fellow Texan. We're in Temple. She's an adorable little pup! Bless you for saving her. I have two females in my avatar there. The one so intent on the bird nest in that tree is my rescue Button.
She was in the same situation as your pup, two days from being euthanized in Mt. Pleasant's shelter near Texarkana, so we drove over and got her. You're gonna love your baby and a companion would be a GREAT idea for her. Two ratties just make sense, as they can entertain each other and burn off all that energy and give YOU some peace. LOL

Yeah!! Another one saved and in her forever home!! Bless you. She is a cutie pie, love her tail. She looks like a real sweetheart, some of them are real cuddle bugs too. It's amazing how quickly they bond with people, I believe they can sense when they are where they're supposed to be- it happend when I brought my Bonnie home. Many happy adventures with Amy and yuor other new rescue- and WELCOME to you all!!!

I just picked her up from the vet on friday - she's got her little lampshade on and looks like a little moon doggie.

I was a little unhappy with the results of the surgery for her cherry eye - they tucked the gland thing back in but there's a little bit of red eye-membrane or something that shows and probably won't go away.

It's not the same as having that gland protruding but I was kinda hoping that the surgery would make her eye look just like the other eye.

I'm working on getting her house broken - I'm patient with her and trying to get her used to running around in my big back yard to go do her business but for now she seems to want to just stay by me like velcro.

She's a really happy little squirt and everyone who meets her falls in love with her - she hates being away from daddy at all though - and I must say that I've grown quite attached to my little girl.
