I was just given this email:

I was told by my volunteer there is a Rat Terrier at Lorain County Pound. Needs out ASAP or else.

EVERYTHING is going down on Friday!! They are full!

Here is the problem, I can't even get this dog pulled with my work schedule and this weekend we are going out of town. I don't know what to do here...................anyone else close? Anywhere we can place this dog?

I can post it on our Chatboard, Val.  But we are so inundated with dogs right now, it’s not even funny!

So true Sue....where are all these dogs coming from??? (Rhetorical question.) It's depressing.

MB,

I think, in addition to the yearly summer dumping season, we are also facing a large influx of dogs cuz of the mortgage crisis and the fact that people are losing their homes... they may have no choice than to bring their dogs to shelters or could just be abandoning them in the homes themselves, and then they're brought to the shelters....

Same here at Russell Resuce, we have her up to see if we can find someway to get her out. It's so sad. And think about this, we are really only dealing with 2 breeds. Think of all the others too, it's heartbreaking and the thing is, there are so many more being born every day.

This is my first experience with the summer dumping season. It can be rather overwelming and frustrating. The housing crisis just makes it worse I guess. Hopefully it will ease up soon.
All the more reason to get the word out about spaying and neutering.

I've got the same "numbers" as Sue (4 personal dogs, 2 fosters) and live in a residential neighborhood in a small house. Hubby and I are "empty nesters" so we have the time for caring for the doggies.

And I work full time, sometimes 9-10 hours a day - sometime weekends, and I'm single.  But when I'm home, I'm HOME and all my time is dedicated to the babies.... I'm a total homebody and that's fine with me.  I can't think of anything better than hanging home with my babies!  And there's nothing better than knowing that I've saved the life of a wonderful Ratty, and have completed the family who adopted one of my fosters.  That's the BEST feeling!!

And please don't think I'm tooting my own horn, I didn't mean for it to sound that way.... I just was trying to make the point that mostly any type of living situation, for the most part, can be a suitable fosterhome...

Gotcha.  Me too.  My dream is to buy about 100 acres of land, and open up an animal sanctuary.  I'd  love to have all sorts of critters......... but mostly Ratties!!

Sue, I am with you on this one. I am ALWAYS home with them on the weekends. Guy isn't as big of a homebody as me so I send him out with his friends and hang with Fred and Alice. They are such entertainment and so funny I never feel like I am missing out  on anything. When it's just us I look at them and the feeling of knowing I saved their lives is almost overwhelming sometimes. I would rather be home with them then pretty much anywhere else (short of Vegas or Hawaii or the Caribean,.....well you get the idea)

As far as I know she was not pulled. You can call Lorain County but Friday was the E day, we asked for more time to try and find someone to take her but didn't get a response. Not sure...........
