I found an older neutered male rat terrier wandering in traffic late this evening in a fairly industrial area. When I pulled over to get him out of the traffic, he came over and I was able to get him in my car. I drove through the surrounding area, and no-one knew anything about him, although one man admitted to chasing him out of an old car in their yard this morning.
He is not chipped. He has a tag from the Humane Society in Denver, and they do not have current contact information for his adopters but will try to find them. He is very gentle and somewhat hand shy, with lovely manners - clearly he has been a much loved pet. The shelters in ABQ are very high kill, and older dogs do not get adopted - basically, they're euthanized as soon as the minimum hold time is up. There is no record of a lost dog matching his description in the paper or with the Humane Society (also high kill).
I cannot foster him for any length of time - I have a 14 year old basenji with bladder cancer who is very high maintenance, and easily stressed by new animals, and I do not have the resources to board him.
Is there anyone at all in the rat terrier community in Albuquerque or the surrounding area who could foster this gentle older fellow?
Please help. This is a very nice older dog who deserves a happy ending. |
