I have a network of rescue folks that send me email "alerts" -- only for blind dogs up for adoption, since I run a blind dog support/adoption web site. Though I always feel sad for ALL of the blind dogs needing homes... this little girl, KD,   happens to be a Rattie... so I wanted to post her information here... just in case someone here might be interested in adopting her... or might know of someone else that would be.  She is such a beauty... and she went blind from the same thing our Lucy (JRT) did -- SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) -- AND -- as Lucy would tell you... blind dogs are just the best!

KD is a dog that has had a rough 1st year. She was rescued from an abusive home where she had suffered severe soft tissue damage and rough treatment by the children. We've gotten her over that hurdle, but that wasn't the end of her ordeal, because KD is now blind. The vet does not believe that her blindness is due to her past abuse or that it's related to another medical condition. At this time, the vet has diagnosed it as SARDS. KD is going to need a special stable home that is willing to take in a special needs dog. She is coping well with her new disability and we expect her to lead a great quality of life in the right environment.
