News from Dawson's new family:
Things couldn't be going any better -- Dawson has settled in here very
quickly and is doing really, really great. He met two of the neighbor
dogs yesterday (a beagle and a little furball of some sort, both very
friendly), plus a few of the human neighbors -- he's a popular little
guy. He's getting a lot more comfortable in the back yard (it's pretty
big, so it's a lot of ground to cover), and he's eating just fine
(especially when we put his food in his crate with him). During the
times when we weren't outside together yesterday, he was sacked out on
either my lap or Caroline's -- we just can't get enough of him. It was
pretty late by the time we went to bed last night, so he slept until
almost 6:30 this morning. We took him outside, and then, when he came
back into the house, he raced around like he owns the place, ready to
play -- he just seems wonderfully happy. At the moment, he's taking a
nap out in the living room next to Caroline. He hasn't had any
accidents in the house, which is something he's rather proud of.

I'm thrilled to see this update, Bethany! What a great little dog. He'll make them a wonderful companion, and they will give him a fantastic home. I'm glad if I couldn't have him, that someone else got him who I know will take good care of him for the rest of his life.

This made me cry happy tears. It's pictures like this that make rescue worth every heartache!! I do hope they find this site so we can see more Dawson, he looks to have a wonderful home and family Maybe they will get him a friend!! |

I had to share this funny excerpt from an email Dawson's dad sent this morning. Prepare to laugh!
Dawson is awesome. I'm attaching a photo I took a few minutes ago of him playing one of his new favorite games with Caroline -- he's just a tremendously happy little dog. He gets really excited when either of us walks into the room, and, like you said, he loves being physically close (which we love, too). Our latest sport is racing around the back yard chasing each other. I was out there with him late last night at about 11, just the two of us plus a flashlight, and we were running in big sweeping loops around the yard, and I kept saying to him, "Who's a crazy boy? Who's a crazy boy?" -- and then it dawned on me that anyone watching from a nearby house probably wouldn't see short little Dawson below our fence line -- all they would see is me, running around late at night with a flashlight, saying "Who's a crazy boy?" So my next email might be sent from the local asylum. |

Got a note from Dawson's folks today (and yes I invited them to join so maybe they will). Here's a clip that I thought you Dawson fans would enjoy:
Dawson is doing fabulously well. Notwithstanding the fact that he’s got a huge backyard to run around in (and he loves to spend time back there, so long’s as it’s not raining or super hot), he’s decided that he’s a big-time fan of going on walks. If we show him his harness or his leash, he goes nuts near the front door – we make him sit while we put them on him, which he’s very good about doing. He responds really well to “sit,” but we’re still working on “stay.”
Two days a week, we’re taking him for 3-4 hours to a friend’s house to help Dawson remember that he’s a dog– our friend runs a doggie daycare, so he wipes himself out running around with other little guys. (As it happens, he’s become very good friends with a tiny furball who belongs to my best friend in town, who uses the same daycare.)
He loves the toys you’ve sent along, plus the rope that I think was included in the last picture we sent.
