A San Antonio dog is desperately seeking a foster home while his 'dad' is off helping fight the war on terror in Iraq.

Message from "Guiness":
"I like to think of myself as a tough little guy. After all, Rat Terriers have a history that dates back to Teddy Roosevelt. But when I heard my dad say he was shipping out to Iraq, my heart skipped a beat. I didn't think of myself losing my best friend, I thought about my dad going to war. I know that's what Marines are trained to do. He didn't have anyone to take care of me.
But thanks to a very caring person at Animal Care Services and more great folks at the Animal Defense League, I'm in a great place. My Marine dad cried like a baby when he said goodbye to me. And I have to tell you, I cried too.
The fact is, I'm much safer now than where my Marine is. I'm fairly big for a Rat Terrier. I weigh 17 pounds. But trust me, it's all muscle. I'm neutered, fully vaccinated, and micro-chipped. Best of all, they let me keep the American flag collar my dad bought for me. It still smells like him.
Now I need a caring home. Maybe a retired Marine and his family will come for me. Maybe they'll even foster me until my Marine comes home, and we can be reunited. Wouldn't that be fabulous? So say a prayer for my dad and come visit me at 11300 Nacogdoches, San Antonio 78217, see me on the Animal Defense League website, or call 210-655-1481 to find out more about me. |

| I know....it about broke my heart reading that. I would LOVE to have one of our Texas members be able to foster him until his "dad" comes home, maybe even keep his dad posted about Guiness and how he's doing. Sounds as if the organization that has him now would have all of the Marine's info. (((Keeping my fingers crossed))). |

| I would really like to help this guy out. But I would not qulifiy (sp) for his adoption. I just looked, also there would be no way I could bring all my other dogs too meet him in prison. San Antoino is so close. Sorry my heart hurts now. |

Donna,
I have a 90#, 2 45#, and a 10# dogs and a little reg. cab pick-up, with no help! There is NO WAY. I have vet records from when Noodles got toaditis & fixed and mutiple vet records amounting to about $3000 for one of my dogs due to a skin condition. Which I might add is not healed nor will it ever be. Due to the fact she would have to be trankulized (sp) the rest of her life. All vaccs and minor medical care I do. AND my yard is not fenced. I have way too many throw aways to take care of yet if this was a rescue where there were no such restrictions I would be on the phone with boyfriend right now pulling every dirty trick I could pull for the OK and first thing in the AM I would be going to get him! But that is not the situation.
So try as I may I have the will there is just NO WAY! |

Sorry, I did not realize you had such big dogs. I was thinking four little doggies. Yeah, a fenced yard is nice, to be able to let them out back, as long as it is a safe backyard. Hopefully someone else will see this and help the poor little guy out. I am glad he gets to keep the American flag collar, his dad gave him. Don't worry so much. Maybe you can mention it around town, and find someone. Maybe put a flyer up in a pet store. the organization he is with, probably has a lot of ways to advertise. I am sure someone will be able to help.

I live on 10.5 acres in the middle of no where. The only fences up are barbed wire for the horses. If we get 4 cars a day down our road we have major traffic. All the dogs know not to go into the street and really only go down the drive with me or BF. Same as the woods they only go if we go. Because there is no fence when I/we have to go to town without Miss Noodles she gets locked in the bedroom. (She has NEVER been left alone more than 5 hours.) Same at nite. All I could think of when I saw this thread was not only could I do something good for a rattie, but also for "one of ours" in Iraq. To give back just a little of what was given out. And yea I like the flag collar and the fact he got to keep it. |

| Me too, Sarah. I'm wondering also if there isn't a family in the San Antonio area who may have a Marine serving overseas (or even another branch of the military) that couldn't foster Guiness until his Marine comes home. |

Great news!!!!! Guinness is showing as having been adopted!! Whoo Hoo
They still do have some others, though
Evian is absolutely stunningly handsome. Mis-listed as a chihuahua mix (probably because of his coloring). I believe he is a chocolate rattie with a tuxedo pattern 2 years old, 12 lbs. and good with other dogs !!!!
