I found a dog last night, looks like the pics i see of the rat terriers except very little black on her. She's about 4 lbs maybe 10"-14" at the shoulder slim muzzle reddish brown and white, but some hints of black around the face and eyes. Solid body. She jumped in my truck but wouldn't approach close enough before that, to pet or touch. In 15 min. she was on my lap. Her tail is docked, and her ears don't seem to stand up as well as the pics i see, but if she's looking or excited about something then they kind of do stand up. Very nice mannered dog, but i have two older dogs now who won't tolerate her. Don't want to give her to a shelter or pound. I live in Oscoda, Mi. I'm assuming she's pure bred due to the docked tail and lack of dew claws. I will keep her over the weekend to try to find owners. Anybody lose her? My guess in age is about 4-5 yrs.

Might be a toy fox terrier too if she is that small. If you are not planning to keep her I will help you get her into rescue if the owners don't show up. You can send me info to gwaciedotcom @ yahoo.com (take out the spaces). I have ties to both Ratbone Rescue for Ratties and ATFTC rescue for TFTs. A photo would be helpful to identifying her. Thanks for letting us know.

Be sure you run her by your vet's office and have her scanned for a microchip...or even better, the nearest vet's office to where you found her. They may recognize her.

I spoke to Dale (the man who found her) and he is going keep trying to find her owners through the weekend so cross your fingers, say a prayer etc.  He will take her to his vet on Monday - she appears to have a bite injury on her nose that he wants to have checked out and to be sure she doesn't have rabies (no tags, just a collar).

Anyway, he sent me a couple of pictures since he wasn't sure how to post them:

Awe, sweet baby. It says a lot about her personality, that she would jump into a truck with a man. Hopefully she has not been abused, and the owners are looking for her. I hope if they do get her back, they do not let her get out again.

Update on this little lost dog:

She's probably more like 10 lbs, but height is correct, about 11" from floor to top of shoulder. Haven't weighed her, but she likes to sleep in my lap and after about 15 min. she gains weight.....lol showing much less shyness now, and appears to be inquisitive, alert, and energetic. No, she's not a pest or doens't pester me, (other than to jump in my lap when i'm at my computer), quiet, not a barker although she did growl at an unknown noise just a bit ago. When outside, she wants to explore, but if she gets too far away, she looks for me and stays within 20-30 ft. If i go in the house, she wants in with me. Can't let her in the house as I have two old dogs who are not tolerating her. She does come to the office with me tho, and loves the freedom to look around and is making herself right at home. No inquiries or calls have come in to the local shelter, animal hospital, my vet, or the police as yet so i'm afraid that no one is looking for her. Going on 48 hrs now, and i'm afraid she is bonding with me. Don't want that as i cannot keep her....Not to worry tho, i will NOT give her to a shelter, or turn her loose on her own. Don't believe in euthinasia for a cute little dog that seems to be looking for her home.

She might be a type B aka short legged aka Teddy Roosevelt rattie. There are no-kill shelters out there and a couple of rat terrier rescues. Ratbone Rescues (Gwacie aka Bethany who replied to you when you first posted is with Ratbones) can possibly help or you can get into the GAP program. With the GAP program the dog stays with you but is posted on Ratbone's website as available for adoption.

She sure is a cutie....Thank you fuzz for taking her home while trying to find her home...thank you for not taking her to a shelter right away either. Have you called any of the shelters to ask if there is anyone looking for a dog of her description....or would they make you bring her in?
Hope theres a happy ending for this sweet girl!

Trying to help figure out a way to get her down my way and into rescue (either Ratbone or another, whoever has room). She is about 4.5 hours north. Cross your fingers. Dale says she is very sweet.

Wow! What a beauty! Obviously belonged or belongs to someone.. I hope Ratbones can help him out with this. I agree that maybe she's microchipped? Wouldn't hurt to check...

OMG! She is adorable. Well to me, all ratties are all adorable! She looks like a Type A to me- not at all a B. She's just little. My Bonnie is little like that. Gwacie, I hope you can get her or get her to someone for RBR if her owners aren't found- or aren't looking for her. She looks like a definate keeper to me! Too bad I don't have room for 3- LOL! I'm sure she'd make someone very, very happy! Keep us posted!!

Good news! The family went away on a bit of a family emergency trip and this girl got loose when the caregiver went over - she got out the door and took off running in the direction the family went. Since she also jumped in Dale's truck she probably is used to going for a ride. Anyway someone recognized her from Dale's contacting everyone and her name is Sally. She is back in "custody" now and won't that family be glad when they get home that their dog is safe. Wonder if the care giver will tell them of her adventures.

Also Dale got rather attached to her so I told him that now he knows what breed he needs for his next pet!

I hope so too. This is a big reminder to have your dog micro chipped and wearing tags, esp. when in someone else's care. If she had either he would have been able to find her owners. She had no tags nor chip per the vet.

What a happy ending. Dale gets congrats for taking the time to look up the breed and also find this website. OMG! Not everyone would do that.

Wish there were more people like Dale in this world. I am so happy there was a happy ending for this girl. My dogs are chipped but they dont' wear their collars around the house. It's got to be so scary losing your dog.

Great ending to this story...I'm so glad. My son's dog, ran out once when their landlord at that time came in to fix something. He came back later that day, but from then on he made sure Rex had tags on and I think now he even stays in his crate when they're gone.

I want to thank this site for putting me in touch with Bethany (gwacie) who helped me to no end trying to find a way to get this little dog into rescue. I am also glad she didn't have to go to rescue. I will admit, i was growing quite fond of the little thing which isn't really a little thing....She's got a heart that cannot possibly fit in that tiny body. She's fearless about other dogs, but shy around strangers. She never barked, but did howl last night when i kept her in the garage until the owners neighbor took her home. She loves going in the truck..., (gotta remember she's not mine anymore) and will admit i was growing quite fond of her. Was hard to see her go and happy all at the same time. Anyhow, thanks for all the support from so many strangers. I didn't do anything special. All i did was to hang on to her for a few days and offer food, water and companionship. I would hope others would do the same. She didn't ask for much.

Thank you again, for saving her from possibly getting run over or something. Sounds like the breed is a good fit for you. If you decided to get one, I am sure you would not be sorry. Look, you already have a screen name, and rattie friends! You just need the dog to go with it.
