This little boy is winning our hearts already (even tough hubby). He's had quite a day already.  He left Dallas around 5am, and flew around the country.  His person got bumped from a flight so he ended up flying from Dallas to St. Louis to Chicago to Grand Rapids MI, 3 hours later than planned.  Then I drove him 2 more hours from GR to my house.  He was a trooper through it all, nary a peep.  We stopped a few times and he was a bit timid but not too bad considering all he's been through.  His bite wounds are healing up really well and will likely be unnoticeable once the hair is back to full length.

He has been introduced to all the dogs (one at a time) here and that went well.  I have to watch Peanut (our 1 yr rattie boy) as he is the SAME size and really wants to play rough and tumble with Dawson.  Once Dawson is cleared for playing it is going to be rattie 500 for sure.

Dawson is VERY smart and conquors his fears pretty fast so far and it's only been a few hours.  He was fearful of our sliding door, for example, but he's already going in and out like a champ (Zippi showed him the ropes).  He has eaten his dinner, and done his buisness outside.  I'm trying to remember how often a 5 month old has to go (only once so far).

This is one super puppy.  He turns 5 months old this week.  He's gonna be a great addition for someone and I already wish I could keep him.

At first he kept hanging out under my leg - it's safe there you know....

Then the Peanut said he wanted to bite his face.....

So Dawson let him a little (we kept it gentle)...Eddie is looking on at the bottom of the frame.

He really didn't want to stop playing when I called the Nutter off...but it's for his own good since he is still healing.

Here he is in one of our 'famous' dog beds.  He's very little but I think he will grow a bit more since his feet and ears seem a little large for the rest of him!

Awww...he wants you too Nora...(giggle). Bailey would like a pup to keep up with him! He will be clear in about 4 weeks I think from what the Dallas vet said. He is actually allowed to play now so long as they don't get too rough.

Not bad....I crated him in the bedroom next to the Nut. He whined a bit so I covered the door and he settled right down and went to sleep. He didn't make a peep until he heard Jeff getting ready for work this morning.

So far he has:

Potty'd outside EVERY time (no accidents)
Eaten his breakfast like a champ (I feed him in his crate so he has a little peace while eating)
Played like a crazy pup with the Nut out in the yard (lots of running)
Tried to use my hand as a teething device for his last set of molars (normal pup chewing). I used the little sharp -uh-uh sound and he stopped.
Watched with fascination as the Peanut decided to take EVERY single toy out of the toy box.
Did a little chewing on a beef knuckle.
Ran around some more.
WORE his new foster mama out.

He's recharging now.

We need to work on confidence and recall but he's already doing great. He has no obedience yet but seems to be basically well behaved. So no bad habits trained into him yet (I'm sure I'll fix that).

He is a little afraid of Jeff but we are working on it.

Here are a couple of photos I took last night.  He likes hubby well enough once he is in his lap, but he's fearful to go to him directly.  He's a little fearful even to come to me but less so (since I am 'the giver of all good things').

First shot he gave Jeff's nose a few licks

Then I tried to get him to hold still so I could get a shot of his boo-boos to show how well they are healing up:

So I made a chirping sort of sound and got a rattie head tilt!

Two rats is better than one Melody (hehe) and you only have how many? He is about as sweet as they come (no aggression yet that I can find and I am trying on purpose to find it just in case). So far no accidents at all in the house (yay) and no inappropriate chewing. He is a little clingy (wants me in his sight) but it's understandable. If I can figure out how to post a video file later I will post one of him and the Nut doing the rattie 500 outside. He will go up on the RBR board in about 2 weeks for adoption and should be fully cleared from his rib injuries in about 4 weeks total. NOT that you'd even know he was hurt most of the time by his energy level!

Hey Gwacie, I only have one rattie--little Nora--who is getting bigger everday. She is just 4 and a half months. Smart as a whip and very resoursce full! I am obessed by this girl

As she is so young and needs so much training and I live in an aprt(: At this time it would be beyond my capacity to take on another, even though if I could would be dawson for sure.

One day I hope to have another one--if nora agrees!! She is very alpha for such a pretty little girl, and she is tricky. She fools other dogs into thinking she is submissive and by the end of the play she always has them down for the count eheh.
