He looks just like pumpkin, and pumpkin had only male siblings in her litter. I always wonder when i see dogs like her. there is absolutely no way I can have him, but I want to see him so much. I'm afraid if I contact the owner I'll get too deeply involved and i'll want him. Do you think if i contacted rat bones they'd do something is he's still available? I would be willing to help out in some way. Craigslist just makes me so scared. You don't know where the dogs end up.

Sounds like throw away people....Something like we got this little boy 4 years ago...he is potty trained and knows his ABC's. Am going to be going back to work and don't want to put him in DayCare. Rehoming fee applies!!!

Amlet, if you don't take either of them or only one, would you let this guy know he can GAP them possibly through Ratbone? I'd hate them to wind up in a shelter. I know, this stuff drives me crazy too (the disposable dog syndrome) but let's hope they find a better place to live out their years.

i emailed him to see if they still have the dogs. if they do, i'm considering contacting rat bone. so you think they could help? i'd even be willing to take them in for a few days....or many days.

For the Ratbone GAP program the current owner "fosters" the dog(s) and they get listed as a Ratbone dog so available to their bank of adopters. That way the dog doesn't get dumped in a shelter while they are trying to find it a new home.

interesting. i think i'm going to contact them about that. first i'm going to ask the person what his plans are. i wouldn't want to take the dog and have the person think I intend on keeping him. this would help them out though, so i don't see why they would be opposed.

haha wow, honestly? really????? they have 2 dogs...they are young but i mean its not like they got a dog and its hard becasue their going back to work, but they got TWO dogs? doesnt that seem a little wierd to you guys? and not only that, why would someone get dogs knowig that oh i will eventually be going back to work full time? i find this whole thing strange... these are the types of situations that makes me think of people stealing other peoples pets and trying to sel them. they didnt mention how sweet their dogs were or how old or how much they loved them and wanted them to go to a good home that can give them what they feel they deserve..dont you think that people like this are wierd. its kinda sketchy! what do other people think?

They say they can no longer take care of him due to job but then there is a "rehoming fee"? Humm....

Erin,

You're right. It doesn't sound like a person who is heartbroken about giving up a wonderful pet due to dire circumstances. Also, I am surprized that neither ad mentions there is a second dog. I sure hope this person is the owner of these pups and not just trying to get that 'rehoming" fee.

I have worked full time all my adult life and always managed to have at least a couple pets.

vickie,
exactly, that too about the second dog. youd think that they would say there are two dogs and would like them to stay together but they can be separated if necessary. but of course if they did mention 2 dogs then they couldnt have separate "rehomming fees" and if they did it together it be odd if the rehomming fee was a big number. this could just be some person that cant handle animals at all, but it doesnt sound like an animal lover that loves their pets and whats them to go to a good home. i just hope these are the real owners, and that these dogs find a family that can respect and treat them right, glad these people arent going to be taking care of them anymore after they find a home.

i feel sad for these guys i hope they find some place better...
but i know what erin's talking about, some people on craigslist get the "free to good home" pets and then put them back on like a week later to get a "rehoming fee" for a quick buck...

people these days...yeah its wrong and all people like that are doing is scamming peole and making money. but is it really scamming? i mean yeah they make money, but atleast (hopefully) the dogs benefit. if someone is willing to pay another person for a dog, then its pretty easy to say they will try and give them a good home. just hopefully these people arent the people that take other peoples dogs and do that. they are very cute im sure they will find a forever loving home

well i think it'd be scamming because it's free to a "good home" so i don't think they appreciate it when someone else picks them up just to sell them, i don't really think they'd care enough to check out the homes and whatnot as long as they got the cash... IMO

haha yeah, deffinately get a new dog microchipped so they can't steal your buddy and pawn them off!

yeah i know what you mean, its scamming the people and the people could be not great, but on the other hsnd, if someone is willing to pay a rehomming fee then it shows that they think the animal has worth, instead of them getting their own free to good home dog they payed something IMO

i am definently getting mine chipped. do you think that people that do that will check for chips? maybe even cut it out? i have no idea! but i just thought of it...

yeah, i guess, i dunno, i think the way i grew up was that unless they were a purebred, they shouldn't cost that much... most of our dogs were free lol

ew! i don't think they'd put in the effort to cut it out, because being the size of a grain of rice,it'd be pretty hard to find even with a detector! (hopefully they wouldn't cut it out!) and they'd have to keep it longer for its injuries... but you'd think a vet would check a new dog for that wouldn't they?

i know what you mean about the purebreds costing a lot. ive only had one dog and she died when i was 8. idk if she was a purebred, i would think yet, she was a sheltie named whitney, i loved that girl so much

oh i know, if they decided to cut it out and wanted to sell it, they would have to wait till it healed or the people buying er would be questioning it, and when they would takie it to the vet they would to...

well, the owner still has him. He's 2 years old. This is one of the emails i got from the owner.

"If your still interested in Shopper please let me know. I have to go back to work in a week and want to have him gone before i do."

He wants to have him gone. How sad.

i dont know what to do. this person is likely to drop him off in the woods somewhere, or take him to the pound. This is really bothering me. He lives 29 miles from me. I can't keep him. What if i get attached?

Well, you could tell the guy to call you if he doesn't find a home and then you could GAP the dogs. Contact Ratbone before you take them to be sure it's ok with them. If you know you are rehoming going in it's easier but if you plan (even on a quiet level in the back of your mind) to fall in love and keep him you will. I've done both (grin).

The reason for the rehoming fee is because if they are listed for free on craigs list, the idiots go get them and use them for research, very bad thats why all free to good home are flagged and pulled
