yesterday afternoon, it was almost 3 o'clock.... I am just getting around to get ready to pick up my son from school.....   The phone rang, i checked the caller id.   it was a local number that i didn't reconized, but answered in case it was important......

It was the dog warden.....  which was totally unexpected, because my mind was on other things...... she, the dog warden, said that there was a rat terrier that is an owner surrender who was an 80 year old lady that she brought for herself....  she couldn't handle the energy of a rat terrier....  it's a female, 5 months old, and the shelter is full, so that didn't give her very much time and it a high kill shelter too....  she dropped the dog off with papers and vet records!!  so all she needs done yet is to be spayed.....

oh my she is very energetic, and has almost no training...but we are working on that right away........  and she's quick too!!  She's learning what "No" means and "un uh"  i have the squirt bottle handy, and tethering her.  So far no accident except for submissive peeing once, but she went outside and did her business.

She's all over Indy now.... at first Indy was a bit too much for her, and now, they are doing their "wrestle"  and Indy is being gentle with her and just letting her climb all over him and him all over her....  Kasey played with her for a bit.... but he much rather take his morning nap than to worry about a new pup in the house.

She looks alot like velvet brown on ratbone rescues except she's black with white markings....   They could pass as twins.

She met my husband, and she didn't know what to think of him at first, but I had John to be the first to give her a treat and John was able to get her to settle down when it was time to settle down...........

and she slept in her crate all night last night, and boy! she was ready to get out of there as fast as she could this morning.  So i don't think she has been crated, but I think that is the best thing for her for now.... Owen, my son said that she sounded like Daffy Duck in the crate whining to get out.... i thought it sounded like a clucky chicken.... lol lol   she's is gonna have to learn to earn her.....  i don't know... rewards, i guess what you call it....   and know who is the alpha in the pack.....

So her name is Jasmine, but I am calling her Jazz, or Jazzi.

I am temporary fostering her right now and she will be going to Michigan to her foster home.

Oh, good, you got her out!  I can't believe that stupid old woman bought a rattie puppy for herself and then dumped her at a kill shelter!

I am glad you are fostering her!  The background of these dogs that end up in shelters is so crazy. i can't believe how ignorant some people can be, at any age!!

She sounds so cute,   Pics.......................................

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

What a great age though! Past the puppy stage, but still very young enough to train. Bailey was six months old when I inherited him... and it was a great age. I'm so glad you were called and that you have her. She sounds beautiful... and feisty!

Okay, just wanted to send a note that I posted pictures of her in the photo ratties forum....."here's Jazzi, the girl i pulled from the high kill shelter on 5/20/08".   she is coming out of her shell alot...  starting to play with the toys and chewing away on the nylon bone....      she's a bit handshy.... but my husband is guessing that she may have been scolded at some point that drove that lady crazy.... especially when we say come or come here....  in baby talk....     but we are working on that too,  try to show her that it's okay to let the hand pet her and give her some loving....   she has alot of potential....

I'm so glad that you answered that phone!! Why would an eighty year old get a puppy???? I could see a companion dog...and not a Rattie ...even if they are snuggle buns, but a puppy???? I am so glad there is such a happy ending for Jazzi. She sounds like she is going to make a wonderful forever dog for someone!

Don't be too hard on the 80 year old lady. We don't know how she was doing mentally I am sure she just had no idea how active ratties can be. I am sure she saw a cute little puppy that had not yet begun hyper-active stage. At least she took the dog somewhere and had all the papers - she could have just opened the back door and sent the dog on its way. Maybe she tried to find a home before calling the warden. I am just happy that things turned out well for the puppy
