This little cutie is in Youngstown Ohio.  They are calling her a CHI/FOX mix but I see Rattie big time.  She only has until May 21st, four days away.  Is anyone close enough to check on her?

#@%$^&**&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE HOW HUMANITY AND THIS COUNTRY TREATS ANIMALS AND ALLOWS THIS TO HAPPEN!!!!!!!! PEOPLE ARGUE THE LAW TO STOP A PATIENT, WHO IS GOING TO DIE A PAINFUL DEATH IN A MONTH, FROM KILLING THEM SELVES. PEOPLE DO EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO HELP SOMEONE LIVE WHO DOESNT WANT TO LIVE OR DOESNT HAVE A CHANCE TO LIVE. AND YET IF AN ANIMAL, LETS SAY A 3MONTH OLD COLLIE WHO HASNT EVEN STARTED LIVING HER LIVE, " IS "TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE" THEY SAY MURDER KILL KILL KILL, INSTEAD OF "OH MAYBE WE COULD TRANSFER HER TO ANOTHER SHELTER! animal abusers need a higher jail sentence and/or fine and not be allowed to have much let pet another animal again. and this country shouldnt be murdering these sweet inocent animals!!!! this just ticks me off!!!

im sorry i saw this and just got really heated and needed to let it out before i exploded. plus i am a huge animal lover and it kills me to see and hear things like this.....

I know Erin. It's the reason I do what I do (rescue work). It's why I will never again adopt an adorable puppy except if it comes through rescue because, well, I've seen too many dogs in throw away situations and it breaks my heart. It makes me feel to selfish to want to buy a "perfect" breeder pup when I know the sad state of affairs. Plus some of the best dogs I've ever owned have come through rescue - they love you and are SO grateful for being saved.

That being said, and please know I mean this with love and support, getting angry and ranting only gets you upset. The best thing you can do is figure out how, in your life (now or later when school is done), you can try to make a difference. We can't save them all, even all the RTs, and that makes me ill. But we can save some.

I'm hoping Val, Fred and Alice's mom, who is like an hour from there, can help out or knows someone closer but she is off line on weekends I think. Cross your fingers for this girl. If we can get her we already have a foster home lined up.

Geez. I'm only here for a bit - it's been a busy weekend and we're running up to the lake to do some more pre-season cleaning here in a few. I'm about 1 - 1.5 hours from Youngstown. Looks like the problem for me might be their hours of operation, but I'll help if I can. I know a few of our lake friends who live kind of nearby and I'll put the word out to them as well and maybe someone they know would like a (what I believe looks like a) purebred tri-color, tuxedo pattern, rat terrier. Poor, poor little baby

Also: Did you follow the link to Canine Crusaders? Apparently they will accept sponsorship fees and save her? And they're willing to work with our rescue organizations, but they must be "pre-approved".

From their site: "*ALL RESCUES MUST BE APPROVED BY "CANINE CRUSADERS"
RESCUES NEEDING MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PARTICULAR DOGS AT THE MAHONING COUNTY POUND PLEASE CONTACT CARRIE AT THE FOLLOWING E-MAIL ADDRESS:
Kaireann429@aol.com "

Perhaps that is an avenue to pursue as well????

Michigan, Tracey. If we can work it out I can drive down to like Toledo or a bit more to meet someone. Linda K in MI said she can take her so long as she is reasonably 10yo kid and dog safe.

Great. They are opened dreadful hours. If shelters had better weekend hours they'd have more adoptions! The big thing is that her Euth. date is WEDNESDAY which is their late night. That means she would be gone before someone could get off work and get there. I'll try to get a with the Canine Crusaders group if I can and see what can be done. Poor girl looks so scared. Our ratties are just not meant to be in shelters, they do so poorly there.

Their kennel hours are:

Monday and Tuesday: 11am - 4pm
Wednesday: 11am - 7pm
Thursday and Friday: 11am - 4pm

Ok Well keep me posted. If they will let me pick her up and we can find a home or if someone can contact ratbones. Maybe they can pull her. I think they would if they see that she is rat.

Heard back from Canine Crusaders. They can help with the pull so now I am waiting for Ratbone to confirm it's a go. The foster home is a Ratbone foster home (and as am I, I just don't have it in my sig line).

I'm glad Canine Crusaders got in touch with you and can help. Let me know how things are progressing! She is definitely a rattie and must be out. From what I read, she can't be adopted until Wednesday and that's also the same date she could be euthanized...how crazy Though, living kind of nearby I kind of know the area and can only imagine that they are overwhelmed with dogs

It looks like Canine Crusaders will help with the pull so then we have to work out transport from Youngstown to Grand Rapids. I can drive down to Toledo and keep her over night and then do some or all of the Grand Rapids run. It's the Youngstown to Toledo run that will need filling. If you can do any of that let me know!

That is why we need people to rescue instead of going through breeders, there are so many out there that need homes.

Gwacie,  even though we spoke, I can do transport anyday after 6 or any day this weekend except Friday.  I hope they can pull her Tuesday night, that means this would be her last day in there.

Ok, looks like she will be pulled and ready for transport on Wednesday. The woman who is helping us is 45mins west of Youngstown in Ravenna. I need to get her up to me in MI. What legs can you guys do if any?

Gwacie: So glad she's being pulled. Ravenna's about 1.5 hours northwest of me, but I'm completely stuck during the week (Just now getting home tonight - sigh!) Ravenna's also about 1.5 hours southwest of Tabitha (Teddy's Mom).

Ok, I have the dates wrong. They make the VET appointment on Wednesday for a future date (oops). She can't be transported until then. I will figure out when. Can you help if it's on a weekend Tracey? Is Youngstown closer for you? Nothing firm yet, just trying to get my ducks in a row (quack quack)

It depends, Gwacie. Have pretty set plans this weekend. (Have some personal things going on in addition to one full time job, one part time job, and neither of those include my "unpaid" jobs of mothering/housewife/cook/chauffeur/etc/etc) But I will try and help if I can. She IS safe however, though, right. No danger of euthanasia now??????
