I have been fostering what I thought was a parson russell terrier.  The more research I do the more I am becoming convinced that he is actually a Rat Terrier.  I foster for Russell Rescue and have had some interest in him but I think his looks are a little different so he hasn't gotten adopted.  He is a really wonderful dog.  He was hit by a car and dropped off at the E-vet and then taken to the shelter.  I kept an eye on him via the shelter website and after 30 days I inquired about him.  They said they had kept him so long because he was such a great dog but didn't think they could keep him any longer.  I pulled him and have had him for about 6 weeks.  He is crate and house trained and really a good dog.  He is a purebred something because his dewclaws have been removed and his tail docked. 

I can't keep him because 4 dogs would take me over my limit and I woud no longer be able to foster.  I would really like to find him a home with another small dog to play with and with someone that has terrier experience.
 I am located in Ventura County in Ca.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Look out!  Now you have been bitten by the RATTIE bug. It is a slow but steady infection. It happened to me when I ended up fostering first one then more Rats that were mislabled as Toy Fox Terriers. TFTs are in between Ratties and JRTs in temperment but have that indpendent business and readiness to fight that the JRTs have. Ratties have the terrier attitude but are more than happy to hang out with their people and in fact seem to prefer them. So with ratties you get the best of the terrier personality with the bonding that some of the terriers seem to lack a bit.

OH and trust me I know what you mean. We decided to keep the Peanut (in my avatar). He was a foster I agreed to take to help a local group out - well the group vanished from view and I could have GAP'd him with Ratbone but he was such a sweet boy and so bonded to me that he stayed...and put us up to 4 dogs. So we figured we were too full to foster but we have already had a few short term dogs through (up to a week each) and will take a foster in need. I work to find other foster homes for dogs that come up too, which often keeps me from having them but keeps them alive. And if you wanted, you could to transport or other type work for your rescue if not fostering.

I can see why you ended up with that little cutie!  I started out doing transport, I never intended to foster.  I knew I didn't have the heart for it.  But one day I was scheduled to pull a Jack from the shelter and the foster mom bailed.  He was already on hold and could only be pulled by a rescue so I was his only hope.  I fostered him but he was a little brat.  He ended up being adopted by a trainer that use to breed Jacks.  I was sorry to see him go but not like this one.  Jake's only bad habit is nipping at Bishop.

Our HOA only allows 3 dogs and I am so afraid that if I kept him they might find out down the road and then I would need to rehome him and that would be even more heartbreaking.  I am going to send him to his new home on Saturday but if for some reason it does not work out and he is returned; he will stay!

I know I will cry a river!
