Hello everyone!
I am going today to look at a shelter that has four rattys that are two months old. two male two female. I already have Spudz who is a year and two months male. I am torn between either geting a male or female, and wondered which one would be best for spudz. Does anyone have any suggestions. I found out about the adoption when I went to Spudz dog show and the humane society told me about the pups. Spudz needs a buddy anyway, plus if I get a ratty they will be able to keep up with eachother. Thanks for your feedback.... |

| I don't think male or female matters, personality matters more. But at 8 weeks old the pup will be submissive to Spudz. Spudz is neutered, right? |

No, should I get him neutered before I adopt? Will this cause problems. I know that he does get dominant agressive (humpy) at the park and we keep on him, most the time it works, we will make him submissive and he will play good. but there are those times.. do you think he will try this with the pup? |

| Getting Spudz neutered is a really good idea - will help with the humping some and fighting in the future if you get another RT. Plus it's healthier for them (i.e. no testicular cancer issues). If you look at the pups remember the most outgoing are usually the most dominant so keep it in mind when you pick. You can see if the shelter has a low cost neuter program if it's a $ issue, but I highly recommend it. PLUS boys turn into big love bugs (but still boys who are rough and tumble) once neutered and have less 'wanderlust'. |

| Oh and a new pup will likely get Spudz playing a LOT more. |

They're cute pups, they're listed as mixes? They look pure rat to me. Oh, BTW, most rescues will not adopt to homes with unaltered dogs (there are exceptions like if you're a breeder, showing or medical reasons, etc. for some rescues though). |

Aw the pups are ADORABLE! I agree with MB, they look pure to me. The adult at the top looks mix. Definitely get SPudz neutered. It's for his own good. |

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I am going to talk my boyfriend into geting Spudz neutered, and when we go to look at the pups I will mention that to them so they will give my boyfriend a good insight (he is hard headed!) on neutering Spudz. I just have to convince my boyfriend because he swears that it will take away his manilyhood.
I know the pups look purbred to me also that's why I was surprised! Thank you also for letting me know that the most spunkiest is normally the dominate one, I will keep tabs and let you guys know what I get.... Man I am sooo excited! |

Men can be so funny. Its not like you will alter his personality. I have 4 boys at the house right now and none of them are "girly" and all neutered. Granted 2 of them were neutered very young and don't lift their leg, but that is about all. Franky is our first rattie and he was so hyper before being neutered and he was only 3 or 4 months old at the time. I thought he would be really different after his neuter since he was our first and boy was I wrong! He came home from the surgery ready to play and act crazy as always!
They will just have less luggage. =) |

Well... I wasn't able to adopt the ratty :-( I was devistated and felt like I was ten! The reasoning was because the humane society had to ok the adoption through my apt.manager. BUT He said he could not ok us getting a second dog because of other irresponsible dog oweners in the complex, he said we were excellent tenents but because of others, he was not able to say yes.
This pup that we were looking at though was sooo cute, we already picked out a name...Auto! He had Spudz personality loved to be loved and I think that only made it harder when my manager said we couldn't have him.
But I guess it all happens for a reason... I just feel like moving out to get the pup. he did infact look like a purebreed, but did not have the ticking spots and had a regular size tail, it was the one that Donna liked in the orange collar! He was the first one to look at us, the only one really awake, then when we had one on one time with him, he took our hearts.
I just have to love my Spudz all the more now! Thanks once again for all of your comments. |

Awww, I'm sorry you couldn't get the pup! I love the two males especially the one on the left. I wish I could have another but I have my hands full as it is right now with two dogs and two kids under 3. Maybe you could talk personally to your land lord and sign some sort of agreement and maybe even put an extra pet deposit down. Is that a kill shelter? Maybe RBR could get involved and pull them. They would be so easy to place, they look pure to me! |

Nevermind, I read the site. No kill, so they should find homes no problem! Puppies have it alot easier than older dogs imo. |

I know That is a really good idea because my landlord did mention that he was going to start depositing people with dogs, they haven't yet, but I was thinking I could also do like a petition with my apt. complex because they are the ones I live around. I do not think it is a kill shelter, it is riverside humane society. But there is five the fifth one is not on the pics, but he seemed like the runt of the bunch! |
