I was thinking about the Oprah show and what I could do to help so I sent this message to every news station in my area:
Hello,
In follow up to the Oprah Winfrey show on Puppy Mills is it possible to do an investigative piece on "Pet Stores" here in our local area. I know Petland in Southpark Mall and Kamms Corner Pet Store are probably receiving their supply of dogs from puppymills. The Amish are one of the leading groups that mill out their dogs, but that is probably a whole other piece in and of itself. I just want to educate our area of where not to shop and advise the public of all the great dog rescue groups that are out there. If we can stop these petstores maybe, at least in our area, we can really make a difference for all the dogs out there that need homes instead of reproducing at rapid rates just to sell to these petstores.

Do you personally know of anyone who has purchase a sick pet at any of the Petlands? What about Animal Zone in Elyria?

I am putting together my response based on cases I know of. One other rescue girl has loads of info on Animal Zone, they are horrible. Once we get facts to send him maybe he will do a piece and shut down some pet stores in our area. Oh, I hope!!
Maybe if everyone contacted their local news they would do local stories and we can make a difference in shutting down petstores and stopping puppymills. Doesn't hurt to try!!

I did and they are going to do a story, Maybe it will close down some of these stores.

| I'm glad that you have people listening I wonder if all of us could even if it was only one station from each person could you imagine the difference that would make I'm going to work on the stations here in Arkansas, where my husband works is in the same building with one of the news stations. They eat where he works every day, and they have a page just to suggest news stories. Thank you for the idea, you never know when a small tought becomes a big change!!!!!!!!! |

If we all email our local news stations that same thing one from each place should pick up on it, especially because Oprah just did it. Now is the time because they will follow up on her story. Just google your news station and they have contact us or investigative piece, you can even copy and paste mine (short of Amish unless they are in your area too). Oh to stop puppy mills.........
I sent out a request to rescue to give me any stories pertaining to dogs from pet stores and you should see the influx I got, they make me cry but I have some good info for our news team here. I am so happy they are going to do the story. |

oh wow, that is a great idea! We actually have a lot of news stories around here like this. Mostly having to do with sick dogs coming from Mexico and being sold to pet stores, or in the paper. I seriously see it on the news, or read a story about it at least once a week.... very sad 
on a side note.... I can't believe you got Carl Monday to do a story! I just had a flood of memories of back home when I read your post... I think they just opened Southpark a couple months before I moved! |

I KNOW, Carl Monday is one of the biggest reporters!1 It's great because he is so watched.
Southpark did open a few years ago and there is a PetLand in there . He said Pet Land is one of his focus points!

hehe, I wish I could come home very soon! so far away! i remember going to southpark one time on a visit, I was used to parmatown so southpark was like an amusement park to me! I think I even got lost  |
