I was looking at the ratbone site and was wondering if Mickey is still up for adoption?  Since we are close to each other it would be an easy home visit, etc.

If he is, I will try to work on my husband about getting another dog

He is, but he has 2 apps on him already, but please apply to adopt if your husband is agreeable 100%!  You never know what could happen to the others who apply.

My husband is reluctant to think about it until we know for sure what is going to happen to Luna (my beagle mix) so I would not apply until then. I was curious though, since he is so beautiful and seems so sweet.

Well, I had 2 apps, but one dropped out.  Mickey is a sweet little boy.  He's a sensitive soul, very affectionate and just wants to be with his people.

I wish the best for Luna - I didn't know she had a problem - I can't always read stuff as thoroughly as I'd like from work, and I miss a lot!!

Thanks for letting me know that one had dropped out.  Luna is *hopefully* on the mend.  I posted about her falling down the stairs earlier this week.  She is on medication and will have the calcium levels in her blood tested again in a couple of weeks.

If it does turn out to be high, then we will start cancer screening, although I am not sure how aggresively I will treat a cancer - there is so much discomfort involved, and she is 15 and not in the mood for much anyhow.

I will surely keep Mickey in mind.... Egypt only wants to be with me.  My daughter is very sad about this development and Egypt has started really growling at her now.  I keep telling her that she has to give Egypt her space, but the kid just wants the dog to be near her, she isn't really doing anything that an average 8year-old would do with a dog, and she does know better about how to behave around dogs.  Egypt will even snap at her if my daughter tries to get in my bed when Egypt is there - so not a good thing.....

Oh I'm sorry, that's right.  Brain fart here!!  I am hoping for the best for Luna and that her elevated calcium levels were just a quirk for that day.  It does happen!

My first Rat, Bandit had cancer.  He was only 6, but he had adenocarcinoma, a very aggressive type of cancer in his salivary glands.  I put him through Chemo, thinking that maybe he'd be strong enough because he was young, but it only was torture for him, and it was only about a month from his diagnosis to where I had to put him to sleep.  My vet told me that chances were chemo wouldn't help, but I had to try.  Now I wish I hadn't, but every situation is different.  It depends on how much the cancer has progressed, what type it is and where it is.  Some are more treatable than others.  But try not to go down that road unless you have to.  Hugs...

Might want to work with Egypt before the issue gets out of hand btw.....You could put her on a NILF program and have your daughter be the one to care for her - that would help her see that your daughter is above in pack order AND is a caretaker so worthy of affection.

Sorry Sue, did my post confuse? I was talking about this:

Egypt only wants to be with me. My daughter is very sad about this development and Egypt has started really growling at her now. I keep telling her that she has to give Egypt her space, but the kid just wants the dog to be near her, she isn't really doing anything that an average 8year-old would do with a dog, and she does know better about how to behave around dogs. Egypt will even snap at her if my daughter tries to get in my bed when Egypt is there - so not a good thing.....

And suggesting Egypt goes on a 'nothing in life is free' training program with the 9 year old acting as the 'caretaker' (she feeds and treats etc). NILF works really well with dogs that have a misplaced sense of their place in the house (i.e. snapping at kids that try to get on the bed, or at any humans actually). Here are a few links:
