I hate when they don't even have a name

I've emailed them and I'm waiting for a response. This little girl looks scared and very thin Have no idea how/why she came to be in this shelter. Apparently it is a "kill shelter" and I asked in my email how much time she might have.

[script removed]Pet Photo

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10648216

This sweet older girl is about 8-10 years old. She is spayed and current on shots. She needs someone to give her a good home for the rest of her life. She has had her teeth cleaned and tested negative for heartworm. She is in good shape and a steal for only $30. She is a lot prettier in person.

NOTE: We can NOT return long-distance phone calls and they can NOT ship or hold animals (sorry). Due to lack of space, animals may not have as long as we would like to get adopted. If you would like more information, please call the shelter between 1 and 5pm (M-F) or Noon to 4pm on Saturday to make sure the animal is still available. Please have the animal's ID # available when you call. Adoption fees and directions to the shelter can be found on our petfinder website (see SOLAS link). The Shelter is located at 2821 S. 15th St., Council Bluffs, IA.

Poor mouse...wonder why they can't hold dogs if someone is interested or at least sends some money?

Poor thing! I really wish I could start fostering. I would bring her home in a hearbeat.

Response from shelter:

Unless we get more dogs in and get real full she is safe from euthanasia. If she gets snippy or sick that will be a different story. We do not have sponsorship of dogs as this is a public shelter that can not guarantee the dogs fate. We do think now that she is now about 12-14 years old.

What a sweet scared face. I wonder how a dog 12-14 years old gets to a shelter. The owner probably passed and no family member to take her?
This is so sad.

I don't know but I asked, Vicki, in my response to the shelter. I'm worried though, at her age, and because of how we all know ratties can be in shelter situations, that she's likely to get sick and/or snippy and that will be that. I hate the thought of any dog in dying in a pound, but something about these older ones ending up there for the end of their life really upsets me.

What about doing the GAP program?  Since you are waiting on approval for fostering couldn't you still foster her as a "guardian" and list her on their site?

Well I live in Omaha which is right across the river from Council Bluffs. I got Henry on a plane a few months ago, I could probably manage the same for this sweet little gal if we have a place to send her.

Bethann is there. So is Carla (cjay). Um, Zogman (Steve)...they all offered and/or helped with Henry's transport from Iowa.

Ok, $30 to pull her. Not sure how much $$$ to get  a health certificate from a vet. She would need an airline approved crate as well.

Possible flight info:

Delta - offers direct flights from Des Moines or Cedar Rapids to Atlanta (price approx $180 - $200)

Northwest - offers direct flights from Des Moines to Atlanta (price approx. $150) Cedar Rapids to Atlanta only offered with connecting flight.

That's where there may be a glitch.  We don't know if there's anything wrong with her that would prohibit her from flying - like heart issues, etc...  She needs to be up to date on shots, especially rabies to fly - but because of her age, the vet may want to do bloodwork... I dunno.  Who's going to pull her and do they have a good relationship with their vet?

They've said she is heartworm negative and she's had her teeth cleaned, so I'm guessing they've done some vetting of her???? Hopefully one of our Iowa members has a vet that would take a look at her for not much $ since it would be for a good cause

I'd just like to know she's outta of there before they decide she isn't adoptable and put her down

Poor thing. We don't have kids but we do have a clause in our will for our dogs to be put into rescue with Ratbones (first choice). I would feel so terrible if any of our critters ended up in this situation. She must be terrified.

Oh if that's the case, it shouldn't be much.  Dr. Bart doesn't charge me, but I haven't heard anybody paying more than $15.00 for one.

If they did a dental she was probably sedated which would indicate they weren't worried about her heart, no?
