Hoss is just over a year old. (Born in Feb. 2007)
Hoss was taken to a high kill shelter by his family because they were moving. He was scared at the shelter, so they deemed him as "unfriendly" and not adoptable. They took him back to be euthanized, but once in that room, Hoss started screaming like a hurt child and ran over to a worker and clung to her and kissed her. They decided to spare his life this one time, providing a rescue came to get him soon. He didn't have much time before he'd have a second, fatal date in that E room...but Ratbone Rescues rescued him!
This big strapping guy was named after Hoss Cartwright on the old western TV show Bonanza. Anyone who watched the show knows that Hoss C. was big guy, yet kind and gentle. These are characteristics that our Hoss posesses. He may be big (25 pounds), but he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He's a sweet, gentle giant. He is submissive to other dogs, respecting their boundaries and backing off when they indicate displeasure.
In the house, Hoss is content to be low-key...lying around or sitting in someone's lap. As soon as we sit down, Hoss comes up and looks at us with his big brown eyes, asking permission to get in our laps. He loves playing with me when I sit or lie on the floor. He'll lie on top of me or we'll "love wrestle". He's so gentle and non-threatening...I think he'd be great with kids. He lets me lie down with him and use him for a pillow...I can just imagine him snuggled asleep with a child resting with/on him.
Outside, Hoss is a blurr of activity! He runs out the door with exuberance, so sure that a squirrel will be sitting on the ground waiting for him. He uses his time outside to burn off some of his youthful energy...running hither and yon. He loves being outside! Yet he's always excited to come back inside to be with the rest of the family.
Hoss appears to be housetrained...he's never "marked" nor had an accident in the house! Yippee!
When first meeting people, Hoss is a bit shy and hesitant. But it doesn't take him long to warm up!
Hoss has a great "puppy" exuberance and is happy all the time. He loves attention and affection and often "voices" his feelings of love and happiness with whines and "talking".
Hoss will be attending the RT Jamboree if he's not adopted before then! Watch out if you have a dog in the races...Hoss can run like the wind! If you're interested in meeting Hoss, he'd love to meet you and spend time with you at the Jamboree!
