Hi Sarah,
I've already been in contact with the shelter about this boy and we're trying to get more info on him. He has a condition called PDA.

| Oh yay!! A PDA is so minimal, it shouldn;t be a hard fix, right?? Quick snip, minimally invasive? If I can help, let me know! |

It's not hard to fix from what I read. I am hoping for some good news. I've got a call into my vet to see if he can do this surgery, and if not, if he knows someone around here who does, how much it will cost and the prognosis after surgery. |

| We have many babies at work get this. It is a Patent Ductus Arteriosis and is a small shunt that is present in fetal circulation. It doesn't always close off after birth so it needs Sx to fix. In humans they use Indomethicin (medication) times 2 to see if that will close it first. is that an option with dogs? Then surgery is basically tying or cauterizing the shunt so bloodflow returns to normal. Recovery is usually nothing in premies, I would think it would be similar if not better in an older dog. |
