This horrid man dropped off his VERY PG and YOUNG Germ Shep at a KILL shelter in Columbia..she had her pups 4 days later.

We ALL need to write the local papers there and the Senate regarding this disgusting man's act...

SC has no state funded spay/neuter program...jee....wonder why?!

WHAT a creep!

Subject: Senator in NC dumps pregnant German Shepherd to have PTS
Body: Please read the crosspost below about a South Carolina Senator who dumped his pregnant family dog just days before this Easter to be killed at his local shelter! IS IT ANY WONDER THAT OUR COUNTRY IS IN THE SHAPE IT IS IN????? Please take just TWO MINUTES to respond, if you don't do anything but tell this irresponsible 'leader' that his actions are inexcusable. A letter to the newspaper would be a terrific addition, as well. Lawmakers need to know that they must do better, no matter the state.

'You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

Dear Fellow Dog Lovers,
I am writing to ask you to consider writing a letter to the appropriate local South Carolina newspapers and c contacting Senator Kent Williams of South Carolina. Sen. Williams had his very pregnant German Shepherd Dog picked up by animal control and taken to the Mullins, South Carolina , shelter a few days before Easter. She had puppies 4 days later. This is a great opportunity to highlight the need for responsible pet ownership in the South and for the importance of spay/neuter. If anyone is interested in setting up protests outside the fine senator's offices, I would be happy to assist .

Below is 'The Honorable' Senator's contact information:

Business address: 602 Gressette Bldg.

Columbia, SC 29201

Local newspapers:

Maddock, Exec Editor Columbia Star
editor@free-times.com
news@free-times.com
stateeditor@thestate.com Letters to the Editor re: Senator Kent M.

Williams (District 30 - Dillon, Florence, Marion & Marlboro Counties)
Incidentally: The Mullins SPCA shelter director is the son of a 'political connection' of Senator Williams
Senator Williams' family pet dog at the Marion County Animal Shelter where he dumped her to be put to sleep .

My letter:
'Dear Editor:
I am writing about a terrible situation that has come to my attention through a dog rescue. Senator Kent Williams, District 30, coldly and irresponsibly dropped his very pregnant German Shepherd Dog at a local animal shelter.

This is disgraceful on several levels: there is NO excuse for the Senator to have failed to spay his dog if he didn't want the responsibility of raising puppies, and to dump his family dog off in a kill shelter to be heartlessly killed, or to have her puppies and have them be possibly killed too, is just heartbreaking.

Instead of dumping his dog in such a disgraceful and cold act, Senator Kent Williams should be working to fund spay/neuter programs at low cost for the community and finding solutions to the tens of thousands of young and healthy dogs put to death in South Carolina shelters every year. Any responsible person can see that the dog situation in the state is a disgrace and needs to be addressed immediately. The senator chose to be part of the problem, rather than be part of the solution. He should be ashamed of himself, and I hope he reconsiders his attitude toward this situation.

If he is in an elected position I bet he doesn't get re-elected. I hope someone adopted the dog. Do we know the outcome?

I wrote both the Senate (ProTem), the Senator himself, AND the editorial for the local newspaper, The State.

I don't know what happened to the dog. or her pups.

I am certain the Senate as well as William's office is now busily scurrying around to do damage control.

He'll probably try the "She wasn't mine...I found her running around" tactic.

He is the Dept of Ag and Natural Resources Senator...figures. Have zero feelings about animals anyway...

The internet is a powerful tool...he'll "get his"...

UPDATE!

Lisa, who is CEO of a Savannah local rescue, Coastal Pet Rescue, has contacted the shelter and offered to pull the dog and pups. (She has not heard back.)

Hopefully they are still alive. He dumped her a few days before Easter so it hasn't been that long....

Bravo Lisa!!!! And CPR of Savannah!

Yay for Lisa.  Keep us posted!

I emailed him and told him I hoped he had no intentions of running for a national office, because I would definitely not only not vote for him, but would campaign against him.  I told him the way one treats his dog is a good indication of character and he obviously has none!

There is NO excuse for doing what he did!

I heard a quote once about how you can tell a lot about a country by the way they treat their animals. This says a lot about him as a person. How proud his family must be, ummmmm and where was his wife and family to stop him from dumping their dog??  she must be a gem too.

MORE News!

Just heard from Lisa with Coastal Pet Rescue in Savannah and she was informed that the mom and pups are in temp foster care...so they are seemingly out of immediate danger. She is still awaiting word from the caregivers as to their fate....

NO thanks to the Senator-from-He#L!

I DO hope many on this site WILL write his office, as well as the Pro Tem's office AND the Mullis S.C. paper to express outrage and disgust. He should be made ( public) an example of bad behavior and poor leadership.

Thanks everyone!!!

This is what Lisa has found out....

'

"Noble Shepherd Rescue in Florence, SC is facilitating the adoptions for mom and the pups. Mom has fear aggressive issues right now and they are trying to work through that. "

Sad that the MOM is aggressive...probably because of her panic and protection for her pups...

no telling how she had been treated prior to abandonment

Shepherds have incredible memory and trust issues if trust is ever broken.....

Hopefully she'll find a good patient family.....

I have an aggression story on a German Shepherd.  When I was a teenager, our neighbors (major jerks) had a Shepherd.  She was very aggressive -- corned me in our garage once, tried more than once to bite me, etc.

The neighors sold the house and the dog with the house.  Guess what.  The new owners moved in and within two months that was the sweetest dog you'd ever want to know.  I grew to really love that Shepherd.  Says a lot, don't you think?

Agreed Mary Beth!

What is it that is said ...no bad dogs, just bad humans?

"Pitts" being a prime example.... along with media hype and public expectations.

I realize that there are "breeds" with a propensity for "behavioral problems" but it is the Human association that exacerbates that potential for "badness".....

Humans are THE most aggressive animal! (now leaping off soap box)

Just to try and remember the good....

Humans are also the most compassionate and the only "animal" that can and will go to great lengths to save the "unsaveable", which would happen "in the wild".
