FAKE SHELTER / RESCUER ALERT - Please forward to your rescue contacts!
Tony & Rebecca Williams claim to have a rescue in Rocky Mount, NC and are trying to get dogs from all over the Eastern Seaboard. (She offered to take 14 dogs since Monday.) (I'm unsure as to the original posting date of this alert)
She continues to take dogs. Most are pit bulls, with some offers to adopt Presa Canarios, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and Wolf hybrids. In addition, she had previously posted that her roommate was looking for a Great Dane or Great Dane mix.
She also posted that she was "desperate" for a Chihuahua and she really wanted a Min Pin and a Jack Russell. She claims her rescue is a pit bull rescue, but another pit rescuer called the local Animal Control.
Animal Control's comments:
"She's been barred from taking any dogs from the shelters in her area." He also said she has a long criminal history, has been selling Pit Bulls on street corners for $15 or $20 and has been under investigation for dog fighting. Atlantic Rescue has now banned her, after finding out this information. These are the breeds she has asked for:
A. Pit Bulls
B. Rottweillers
C. Dobermans
D. Presa Canarios
E. Tea Cup Chihuahuas
F. Jack Russell Terriers
G. Sharpeis
H. Miniature Pinscher
I. Great Dane (Pure Breed or Mix)
She uses the little dogs as bait!

Thanks for the "heads up" on this person. There sure are a lot of screwballs out there!
My county commissioners hired a man several years ago to run the county dog shelter, till they found out he was not only "collecting" dogs that were being turned in to him, but actually went out searching for dogs that were unattended in fenced yards or tied out on cables. He took them and was selling them to laboratories for experimental use. He was advised, after he was fired from his job, to leave the county and not come back. |

| I am going to call the breeder in Havelock NC that I got Rattagan from later and warn him so he doesn't let that B****** get one of his dogs. Thanks for the warning Sue. I will let everyone I know in NC know about this. And I know a lot of people in my home state. That woman needs a major attitude adjustment. Brandy if you go let me know, I'm more than willing to go with you. I hope to visit my family there this fall. She needs a major can of whoop butt opened on her. |

omg...................just saddens me that is so horrible ............my neighbors have a pit bull pup they have decided they can't keep anymore and are trying to find a good home for but they fear the people who might take her will fight her...or mistreat her she is so pretty.... gray white but so far they have no luck and are keeping her for time being.........it's not to common here where i live but there have been cases in drug busts here that they have had to rescue pits that had been breed for fighting and they couldn't be socialized so they put them to sleep....it's just so sad the people are out there doing such things........... |

| Fighting the pit bulls is what has made it illegal to have them in Miami-Dade County. People like that should be PTS not the dogs. People like that make me sick. I just talked to the breeder I got Ratty from and those people in Rocky Mount are too close to risk them getting one of Mr. Don's dogs. He wasn't home but his wife was and she took the names and they will not be allowed to get a dog from there. She said she would tell Mr. Don and have him go to the shelter there and ban these people from getting dogs from that shelter. Just wanted to let y'all know that Ratties on the coast of NC are a little safer. I'm going to get the number to the shelter there and get this information to them just in case Mr. Don doesn't get there. He had heart surgery not long ago. Thanks for the information. |

| I was just thinking along those lines myself, that maybe one of the pit bulls would turn on her........ I'm so bad. I was just reading an article yesterday about unattended dogs being stolen out of fenced yards. Haven't heard of any such thefts around here, but I know a breeder on another rattie forum (who lives in a nearby county) had a beautiful rattie pup stolen right out of her back yard kennel. So sad. It was a beautiful blue and white pup. She highly suspected a young male caller who wanted to come see her available puppies on a Sunday might have stolen the pup because she made the mistake of telling him she would be gone until Monday. I felt so bad for her. None of the other pups were taken, so doubtful in was a criminal ring reselling or using for fight bait. Sadly she had no name, but I encouraged her to contact the local police with the phone number he gave to see what they could do for her. Theft is theft. And she had photos for pup ID. She never pposted again on the board, so I never found out what happened, or whether she pursued it with the police or not. I sure would have. |

I post on a couple of yahoo transport groups for rescues, and I think I saw this name listed there. There's also one in NY that is bad as well.
If you go to the yahoo groups On The Road Again (OTRA) and Dog Rescue Railroad, there should be a post in their files about unethical "rescuers" and transporters....some will say they are helping transport, then take the animals and use for God knows what. |

| My MIL had her two dogs stolen out of her fenced in back yard. She only has a 4' high chain link fence. The dogs were a pug and a westie. Sometimes people steal dogs and then wait for a reward poster so they can collect a reward for "rescuing" the dogs. |

True! You know what else happens? I found a pom wandering my neighborhood and as usual, I rounded him up, brought him home and put up signs. I also went online to petfinder and other lost dog sites to post him. I got calls and emails from people who I KNEW were just hoping to get him and then sell him because of his breed. You could tell by how they talked, what info they had/didn't have, etc. They just didn't seem like loving pet parents. |
