My husband works all over the country and while working in Washington State a few weeks ago, the workers found a rat terrier puppy wandering the streets.  One of the kind gentleman took him in, and tried to find his owners.  He even took him to get scanned to see if he had a chip.  Well, the owners can't be found, and this nice man cannot keep the rattie.

It is my understanding that they would not take him to a shelter, but are unable to keep him.  They had a home for him, but aparently those people brought the puppy back to the man who rescued him.  Long story short, they are looking for a rescue organization willing to step in, or if anyone from here is interested in adopting him out right, PM me.

I don't have many details about the baby, only that I saw his picture several weeks ago when he was originally snatched from the streets, and he is a cutie pie.  I will post a pic and some more details when I get them....

If anyone is interested let me know, also if any of you from Ratbone have suggestions, I am up for them.

My email is ash 5969@hotmail.com (remove spaces)...

Thanks everyone!

Ashley,

Do you have any pictures of him? I know that's what gets my heart strings going!

I really wish I could help him. I am just not in the position right now to bring in a second dog. I really hope this dog finds a forever home soon.

If he does ever have to put this dog in a shelter, the Homeward Pets Animal Shelter in Woodinville does not euthanize and if a dog is there for too long they will put it in a foster. But it sounds like this man is willing to house the dog until a home is found.

It is so hard hearing about dogs in your location in need of help. I just hope he finds a home soon.

You know, I am not even sure...I know very little because this dog is in Washington and I am in Texas. I emailed the man who has him for more details, and hope to get it when I get back to work tomorrow and post it for you all. I think he's probably between 6 months and a year.

Did you try to contact Ratbones? I think there are quite a few foster homes in WA.

Good morning,

Unfortunately, the foster homes in WA are very full. WA is frequently pulling from the Texas kill shelters where 71% of the animals in the shelter don't make it out. =( Our first priority are those at HIGH RISK of losing their lives. We always have the issue of more dogs than space in foster homes. As you may know I personally have 4 of my own and 2 fosters at a time. In order for us to give each the attention they need we do our best not to over stuff our homes with needy ratties.

It would be wonderful if we could save them all, but our space and resources are limited. If anyone, anywhere would like to assist by becoming a foster parent please click on this link http://www.ratbonerescues.com/ratbone_volunteer_app.php

Believe me, it is a very rough job to decide who we can help and who we cannot at the time.

I found out a little more info today. The shelter is definitely not an option here (thank goodness), but they are actively looking for a home for this little guy. No fees, etc...just must be a good home. He is solid black with white feet. I have asked a whole list of other questions, and I will post them up as soon as I get them.

That is great news! There are so many great sites they can post on and could possibly post at their pet stores.

Below is an email from the people who have this little baby:

Jim is going to foster him until they find him a home, I guess there may be
two possibilities now. He doesn't have a picture but the dog is about 10
pounds, not neutered, he is up to date on his shots, the vet thinks he is
about 1 - 2 years old. His temperament is good but the couple whose wife
was allergic to him said he growled when he had a bone. He's good with
kids, other dogs and cats--Jim has them all. No aversion to men or women
and not shy or afraid.

I'm going to be out of town until next Tuesday. I have a feeling he will
have a home by then and I wouldn't be surprised if it was at Jim's
permanently.

So, it sounds like this is pretty much taken care of... :o)  YAY!!!  Another rattie saved!
