I have a co-worker whom I've worked with for 26 years .... she has two dachshunds. One (Gabby) is solid black and has the same parents as Lil'Bit and is 6 months older than Lil' Bit (I was responsible for her getting Gabby). Her other dachshund (Missy) was 15-1/2 years old and passed away this past weekend.
Gabby is in a deep state of depression... won't eat... whines constantly... and although Brenda thought initially that she wasn't ready to replace Missy yet.. she's seeing the need to do so immediately.
Brenda absolutely adores Bailey, and although she wants another dachshund, I have talked her into looking at a rat terrier, whose owner is 78 years old.. fell and broke her hip and is now in a nursing home and mostly likely will never return home again. A friend of hers who lives down the street (and who I know also) took the little dog ( a female, 10 lbs, 10 months old and not spayed yet) to try to find a home for her. She's full-blooded and was purchased from a breeder in Springfield, TN.... not far from Nashville.
We (I'm going with her) have an appointment to meet this little girlie dog next Tuesday, (May 15) at 5:30. Please join with me in praying that the meet-up goes well and that Brenda and her husband will fall in love with her and give her a warm, loving home... as she has so lovingly done with her other pups.
Just wanted to share this with you. |

NORA!!! That is great news I'm so glad you were able to at least talk her into considering a rattie and arranging for a meet up - I'm sure she won't be able to say no to her. Great job!!!!! |

| That would be fantastic if they did. You would be able to help out both parties in need in one swoop. I hope everything goes well for everyone's sake. |

That's wonderful Nora! I hope it works out. Poor Gabby, I've often wondered if something happened to either Mitzy or Mayfly the one left would mourn like that....another reason I wanted a 3rd rattie...or ratchi as the case may be. |

Oh I hope so too! Please let us know Nora. And if all goes well, please tell her about our site. That would be a fantastic new addition! Will be thinking good thoughts for you and everyone involved this Tuesday! P.s. I like the new avatar too. The red hat society is a neat organization! |

Thanks everyone! I pray it works out too! Brenda is, of course, all to pieces about the loss of Missy. Brenda had a double masectomy about 10 years ago and Missy was by her side the entire time. Missy was extremely special to her. I'm truly not sure she's ready for a replacement. Part of me thinks she should go ahead with it... and part of me understands why she might should wait. But with Gabby acting like she is, I'm thinking it will be a good thing to move ahead. By next week hopefully Brenda will be feeling some better.
You know of course, that if Brenda doesn't take this little dog... I WILL expect one of you to take her!!! Because I can tell you right now, there's no way we will be leaving without her! |

I really do hope it works out...if not, I'm sure someone here will volunteer
I just can't do it right now, though I'm often tempted. And I can't even really wish for the day when I can, because that will mean my Anna is gone and that's not a day I want to come any quicker than it already will. But when the time does come and Anna passes...I don't think Daisy will do well all alone, because she's always had Anna to romp and play and just "be" with???? |

Tracey... oh I understand only too well, since I'm dealing with the same issues with my older dogs. I don't think it would be fair to them to bring another dog into the house right now. They've earned the right to grow old and get the attention they deserve.
Shannon... if Brenda doesn't take this little girl, I'll be making a trip to YOUR HOUSE! Count on it! This is a wonderful age to get one... and it's full-blooded and in dire need of a loving home. |

Will they be taking their dog Gabby, too, to see how the two dogs get along? Sure sounds like Gabby needs a companion. Shame about the owner having to move to a home.

ARGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... Brenda came into the office in tears this morning. Her husband is insisting on getting a dachshund as a companion for Gabby. They are arguing over it. We are keeping the appointment on Tuesday to at least LOOK at the dog (which is still really a pup at 10 months of age). She's been around Bailey... her husband hasn't. PLEASE pray this works out... because if it doesn't, I'm sure I'll be the one bringing the dog home and hubby has already put his foot down about it last night. So, Shannon... I may end up at your house by next weekend! |

| It bothers me, because if you could have seen my husband with baby Emma when they were here.... I swear to you he would have kept that little pup in a heartbeat if he could have. Ask anyone who was here and witnessed it ! |
