I hate to do this, but these two guys have been in the shelter here in my home town for over a year.  I called about them when I was looking for a new rattie, but they will not adopt them out to anyone with small children, and they want them to go together.

So, I know that automatically makes it harder for them to be adopted.  Anyway, if anyone is interested in them, I would be willing to pull and help transport.  I just feel so bad for the poor babies...

I wonder if since its a Humane Society they are in foster homes? I know my local humane society has foster homes so that wouldn't be too bad. But being in foster care for a year or more with their cute looks!!

Normally with a great foster rattie its about 1 month on average for me.

I can understand wanting to keep them together, but really if someone could take one, why would the shelter not do it?

I agree... After a year they should start thinking about other options. They are pretty though.

oh wow, they are so sweet! I can't believe they've been there over a year!! I really hope they are in a foster situation, could you imagine them living in a kennel at a shelter for that long?!

I am not 100% sure, but I do not think they are in foster care. When I called about them before (when I was looking and got Mocha), the shelter really could not tell my any information about them except that they wanted them adopted together and not to a house with children. It makes me sooooo sad...

maybe that was a condition the previous owner had when giving them up? I know that if anything ever happened and I HAD to give my ratties up, I'd want them to be together.
I'm sure that there has been interest in them, but the fact that they can't go to a home with kids is the factor that is really preventing them from being adopted.

They would only take them if they were in danger of being pts.
Maybe we can find adopters?
Who wants to call about them?
Maybe we can post their pictures and bios to find the perfect home for them.
Is anyone close enough to go see what they are like?

Over a year? WOW. Bet they are best friends. It will probably be best if they can be together. They are so cute, can't believe noone has taken them.

I wish I could help but we haven't moved yet and I just don't have the space or I would be willing to foster them until a forever home could be found. A year that is totally crazy.

I live close enough to go see them and find out what they are like. I would be glad to do that. I can also pull and transport them if anyone is interested in them...

If you have ratties, and know the breed, why will they not let you adopt them, just because you have small children? Have they been aggressive towards kids? I think they like them too much to give them up, or sumpin...Because it looks like someone would have gone in there, and been qualified to get them...hhhmmm?

Hi Donna,

That I do not know, except for the fact that Kim posted at the beginning of this thread that the girl is shy and likes to stay near other dogs. I'm sure this dog will be adopted because she is in a nice shelter in an area where small dogs get adopted right away.

I must admit you do have a point on the subject. I'm not sure the specifics but I 'm sure there are some reasons not to place a dog in a home with small children.

Hugs, dawner

I don't know Dawn, any suggestions? I can find out any information needed if we find someone who is interested in them.
