I know that many of us, if we had the money, the space and the time would have huge packs of Rat Terriers! But the reality is we have limits on the number of pets we can handle for whatever the reason. I know it can break our hearts when we see so many ratties out there that need help.
Well I am here totally on my own. I am NOT speaking for anyone from Ratbone Rescues but I think a wonderful way we can help with rescuing more Rat Terriers is by volunteering with a group such as Ratbone Rescues. And one way we can volunteer is by volunteering out time to become a home visitor for their adoptions!!
I have sent in my volunteer application. Being a home visit volunteer is really not that hard. You are given all the tools and information you need and then it is just a matter of doing the home visit. Everyone I have spoken with says they enjoy being a home visitor volunteer.
Now, I also have a selfish motive for wanting more home visitor volunteers. I'm waiting for my home visit from Ratbone Rescues and know that the coordinator is working VERY hard to set it up. However, if she had more volunteers to pull from, it could go much faster. There are many, many foster dogs waiting for their forever home and the only thing holding them up is the home visit due to a lack of volunteers.
So why not go to the Ratbone Rescues site and sign up to be a volunteer? This is such a wonderful group of folks, who care so much about Rat Terriers that it just seems a great place to ask for volunteers.

If you feel you can't do home visits, you may want to volunteer to be a transport volunteer (several folks on here have done this and it is fun!), you can sponsor a dog that is in foster care or you can even become a foster parent.
Someone on another thread made the comment that they were excited to be able to adopt a shelter animal as the foster dogs were "safe" and not in danger of being put down. That is true, but by getting more fosters into their forever homes, we free up more foster parents to go and rescue even more shelter animals that are at risk of being euthanized due to overcrowding.
And a great way to get foster dogs into their forever homes, is to volunteer to be a home visitor!!
