I hadn't mentioned this to too many folks, but I had put in an application for Tabitha, a female rat terrier listed with Ratbones Rescue. I got an email saying that she already had a strong application so I figured that it wasn't meant to be. Oh well at least I was happy that she had a strong application!

Well yesterday, I got a call from Ratbones that the applicant for Tabitha had fallen through and she WAS available and they would be checking my references and calling me to ask some questions.

The adoptions person for Tabitha called today and she is so nice. We talked and the next step is the home visit.

I am so excited, I can hardly stand it. Tabitha is 5 years old and weights 8 pounds and is a Type B. She needs a brother to play with and Aka needs a big sister to play with.

Everyone keep a good thougth for us as we continue this journey. Wow, just when I thought that she wasn't available she became available.

Life adventures...what can I say!!

OMG Cheryl!!!!! I hope you get her! Before adopting Pinky, I had been looking at her as well, she is too cute and tiny. Of course, then Pinky came up and she was much closer to us! We can both celebrate our new additions!!!

What terrific news Cheryl.  Tabitha is a lovely girl.  I went to the site to see her, and while I was scrolling through I was so happy to see all the "Adopted" signs.

You will easily be approved, what with Aka being there already.  The person doing the home visit will show up with a checklist and ask you some questions about how you will care for Tabitha.  Our home visit was done by a very nice young lady who Rattagan accepted immediately (she has a Rattie, of course).  Mostly we sat and chatted while she went down the questions and then we went out back to see that the yard is safe and puppy-escape-proof.  As for the references, they only talked to one, who has known Janie for a long time and is involved with animal protection activities.  They didn't call the other two references.

Are far away is Tabitha from you?

Wonderful news Cheryl!! I have been looking at Tabitha for quite some time, she just stole my heart

When you own a Rattie....you KNOW you are in your right mind

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

Our home visit was yesterday. Now we wait a bit more and we hope to soon hear about the decision. We are all so excited.

I enjoyed meeting the volunteer who did our home visit. She lives in Lumberton and I think she and I will be working together on some local efforts. She and her husband were very nice and we all had a blast playing with Aka. He started off a little nervous about strangers in the house but warmed up quickly and once outside decided they were his personal play toys!!

I'm heading out right now to go to SC to stay over so I can pick up Brutus and bring him back to his new family here in NC. It is so exciting to be a part of getting a pup to his new family and I just hope that very very soon, I will be the one on the receiving end.

Keep up the good thoughts!

That's wonderful. You are terrific for helping out with getting not one, but two ratties into homes. Bless you. Can't wait to see pics;-)

Btw-we are somewhat neighbors. I live in piedmont-NC. Are you referring to "local effort"s as in rescue? If so, I would like to hear about that if you have the time.

Hi Rachael,
Where in the Piedmont. I live in Southeastern NC in Elizabethtown about an hour from the coast near Wilmington. By local rescue, I mean my county and the counties around me. Bladen county where I live is very rural and there is a group just now getting started in pulling dogs and doing fostering, etc. Columbus county has a group and I have helped them. Now I am enjoying doing transports. I have done two for Ratbone Rescue and they are so fun.

Take care
