Do we know if there are any "issues" with this pretty girl? I know she would need to be spayed, but any behavior issues, potty issues etc? It seems like there must be something with how they all of a sudden need her to go. She is far away but I dunno, hubby may like her. I just have no time right now for a dog that comes with a lot of issues, you know? Just curious if there was a way to find out from her all the dogs background. She was friednly on the phone and seemed to have no problem talking to me, I just guess I was focused on whether or not she still had her. I am sure she would be willing to answer questions...if we didnt want to call again, I think you can email her directly from the kls link... http://www.ksl.com/?nid=218&ad=2682504&cat=&lpid |

| Ok - for all of you that think we are just "dumping" or "unload" Tempe - we are NOT. We love her and we have tried to find her a home here in Utah. We have contacted shelters and other outlets that are NOT kill shelters or whatever. Just so all of you know - WE RESCUED TEMPE. Someone here did not want her and they were going to just take her to a random shelter where she would have surely been killed within a week. We had two Jack Russell Terriers for 8 years - they were both stolen from our family. It was extremely difficult for us to lose members of our family and we did not want to "replace" them because we knew that our lives were going to get busy within another year or two. With three growing kids and two working parents, our lives have grown substantially busier. We have had Tempe for 2 years and she has steadily been more "confined" as our days continue to grow busier. We very easily could have just taken her to the pound. But we didn't. We sought out other ways. Obviously because we found this site. We had someone that was interested in taking her, but that fell through. THAT is why she hasn't been listed at ratbone rescue or the others. If I sound mad, I am. I take offense to being "lectured" because you all assumed that we are horrible people for taking her to the HUMANE SOCIETY, not a shelter. The HS was suggested by someone on THIS site as she volunteers there. That was going to be our LAST option. Tempe is listed on KSL.com and other sites now and we have already had replies to that. This is JNO's mother - by the way. That is why I am so offended at the posts here. She is 13 and is already having a hard enough time with A- having had two of her dogs stolen from her and B - realizing that she has to give up Tempe and now C - having people curse at her and make her feel like a bad person for not being able to take care of her dog that she loves. Get the FULL story before you judge. |

JNO and her mom, I have been in a situation just like yours before and I understand how hard it is on a family and how hard it will be on the dog as well. I had to give up my dog about 5 years ago because my apartment building was sold and we could not have pets any more. My husband was out of work so we could not afford to move to a different place. Some times life takes over and difficult choices have to be made and it is painful. Judging should not be done by ANYOE until they have either faced this situation or know all of the facts. JNO's mom I want to thank you for posting the facts for us to understand better. Getting Tempe a wonderful new home should be the only priority for every one concerned and not the negative wording that hve happened on this thread. Whether she ends up in a home from this site or another site should not matter. What matters is that she is not taken to a kill shelter and that she is found a home with people who will ove her as much as you do. Here is some info on a no kill shelter in utah... http://network.bestfriends.org/utah/news/ I hope that this little one finds her new home and i pray that your pain at having to do this eases for you. |

Perhaps it would be easier if the full story was given in the first place. As a parent of a 15 y.o. daughter, I understand your being upset; however, I don't understand letting a 13 year old handle this. We had no idea that she was 13 year's old based on her first post (she certainly is very well spoken for being 13 years old.) I am sorry that your daughter is going to lose her dog and I'm sorry that her dog is going to lose her. It's a sad situation to be sure. You have people here, as LadyFern pointed out, all over the United States, frantically emailing and contacting every rat terrier rescue group and/or person we can think of to make arrangements so that Tempe does not have to go to any shelter (kill or not) for even one day. Ratties typically do not do well in shelters and are often traumatized just by being there. There are members in New York, Missouri, and Florida, who have expressed interest in saving her. Personally, I think this speaks very highly of the people here. We may not like when someone feels they have no choice but to take their dog to a shelter, but we don't just sit back and complain about it either. We TRY to do something about it and to HELP. |

We are not absolutely sure that she is going to come to me as yet. I just spoke to the girls mother and they have had several calls locally from people wanting the dog. She is going to call her vet tomorrow and will let me know after that what way we are going to go. The dog is potty trained. The dog belongs to the daughter and she is only 13 years old. I explained to the Mom that we were not trying to be judgemental and did not know that we were dealing with a 13 year old child. And that if a child does the posting then they need to let the people here know that they are dealing with a child. I think she understood after that. She is willing for me to take the dog if she can't find a home locally. My niece is in Utah and I'm calling her to see if she wants a dog for her girls. If nothing else she might take her until I can get her. I had to leave a message hopefully she will call me soon. I'll let everyone know if the dog is coming here and Thanks for your offers of help it is appreciated. I'll let you know ASAP. Probably tomorrow if she gets to the vet. My niece would take her but she is in an apartment where she can't have pets. If we do this and anyone wants to use paypal they can use the rescue donation page and PM me that you have donated for the flight. PLEASE DO NOT DONATE UNTIL WE KNOW FOR SURE THAT SHE IS COMING TO ME! Thanks everyone so very much. Blessings to you all. |

| I appreciate everyone trying to help Tempe. My daughter sounds very well spoken because she is. She is a very intelligent and loving child. She wanted to do this on her own because she did not want to burden me (mom) in any way. I posted the KSL.com ad because the people that were interested told us that they couldn't take her. I read my daughter's first post and then a few replies afterward and then left it to Jessica to take care of and told her to ask me if she needed any help. I understand that this the people on this site are just trying to help. I have spoken to a couple of VERY willing and helpful individuals this morning. Janie told me of the "ordeal" with the other dog needing medical attention and whatnot, so I understand some of the negative thoughts towards my daughter's posts. I have explained things to her and she feels better now that Janie is so willing to take such great care of Tempe. I apologize for sounding harsh in my last post. But as you all want me to realize that you are all trying to help, I hope that you realize that I just want what is best for Tempe and my daughter's feelings. |

We do understand. And please let your daughter know that we certainly do not think badly of her...at 13, she's exhibiting a great deal of maturity and level-headedness, certainly a lot more than many "adults" I know I hope you understand that had we been aware of her age, we would NEVER have been as blunt as some of us were. It's very, very difficult in the "virtual" world to ascertain these things. I'm glad that the air has been cleared. It appears that there are some very positive signs that Tempe will be able to be rehomed! |

| Just FYI - Tempe is about 15 pounds. She is not fixed and not pregnant. She is a very people friendly dog - big people, little people all people in between. She RARELY barks. She does not bark when someone rings the doorbell like many dogs do. She loves other dogs. She has been walked on a leash, but not a lot as we have open dog parks here. She'll tolerate it, but you'll find yourself struggling against her for the most part. She is well kenneled and if you say, "Tempe, kennel." She'll go right in it. As far as we know - from the previous owner, she is all updated on her shots. She is very housebroken and will let you know when she needs to go out. She loves to sleep FAR under the blankets with Jessica when we let her. As it is winter, Tempe is shedding a lot. But if you cut her hair, it is minimalized a great deal. She loves to play chase the ball and pull the rag. She does jump up sometimes when people come over, but that's pretty much a dog's character. She is not as hyper as most terriers are, as we raised her like one of our children. She is a pretty disciplined dog. Any other questions, feel free to ask. |

I don't think you have over stepped your boundries or any one else's. The money for Ratbone Rescues is from this site as whole not who can give and who can't. If everyone agrees to that then it is okay by me. But we need everyone to agree to it first. It is a good idea though or at least I think so.

| I just thought about it since it is going to Rescue other dogs and this one NEEDS a home and quick, I just wondered what the other members would think about this, it is a thought maybe it would work. Why don't we start a post just about this to see how many people agree and what thier thoughts are, mostly from the people that where already able to donate. Then a real desicion could be made. |

Hello all -
This is JNO's mom - I just wanted to let everyone know that as of 30 minutes ago, Tempe went to a new home that she will be happy in. She will have a friend to play with and a family that will love her. It was extremely difficult for my daughter to say, 'goodbye' but the new owners assured us that they will send pictures and updates as to how Tempe is doing. Thanks to all that were kind in offering your help. Janie - thank you for your willingness to take her and for your kind phone call to explain "things" to me. Good luck with ALL that you are taking on and I hope that your dogs will stay healthy and happy and bring you much happiness! |
