I AM A BIG ADVOCATE OF RESCUING, EVEN THOUGH UNTIL RECENTLY I WAS NOT ABLE TO DUE TO A LACK OF SPACE. MY HUBBY AND I ARE NOW ON 3 ACRES AND HAVE LOTS OF ROOM FOR NEW BABIES. SO I AM LOOKING AT A HUMANE SOCIETY OUT OF JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA, AND FIND, OF ALL THINGS, A BABY RATTIE. YAY!! I THINK. I WILL DEFINITELY SEE ABOUT GETTING THIS LITTLE ONE, OH JOY. THEN I GO TO THE ADOPTION PROCESS PAGE. GUYS, IN ORDER FOR ME TO ADOPT THIS BABY IT WILL COST BETWEEN 300 AND 550 DOLLARS ! NOW I REALIZE THAT SHELTERS ARE NOT WEALTHY ESTABLISHMENTS, AND THIS WAS A RESCUE ORGANIZATION, BUT 300 DOLLARS! I DO NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. I AM THINKING THAT IT WOULD BE A REASONABLE FEE ( OUR LOCAL SHELTER'S COST TO ADOPT IS LIKE 80 BUCKS, AND THAT COMES WITH THE SPAY/NEUTER, WORMING, HEARTWORM TEST. ALL I COULD THINK IS HOW IN THE WORLD DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THAT PEOPLE CAN AFFORD TO DO THIS. NOT JUST THAT, BUT MOST PEOPLE WOULD LOOK AT THAT PRICE AND SAY "OH I CAN GET A PUREBRED PUPPY WITH PAPERS FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY" AND THEN THEY GO AND DO JUST THAT, AND END UP SUPPORTING A PUPPY MILL
I HATE TO SOUND PETTY ABOUT IT, BUT IT JUST KINDA BREAKS MY HEART THAT I DONT HAVE THAT MUCH MONEY TO PAY FOR THIS BABY. I HAVE A VERY LITTLE BIT OF MONEY STUCK IN SAVINGS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, AND IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN TO MY KIDS OR DOG, THAT IS THE MONEY I WOULD HAVE TO DIP INTO TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. IT SADDENS ME TO THINK I CANNOT BREAK MYSELF TO HELP THIS PUP WHEN IN THE BACK OF MY MIND I WORRY ABOUT SPENDING 300 OR MORE ON THIS PUPPY AND THEN SOMETHING DRASTIC HAPPEN AND NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE THINGS.
THIS IS MOSTLY JUST A RANT. THAT PUPS EYES JUST MELTED MY HEART. THAT ADOPTION FEE HURT MY HEART. I WANT TO HELP AND HAVE A NEW BABY, AND MONEY GETS IN THE WAY. I HATE MONEY |

| ladyles, i saw that one, not long after i posted that rant. my husband is supposed to be calling and checking for me this weekend, and his mom lives in jax, so he is going to see if she will go check out the pups for us. plus i saw the post on here for the baby in alabama, tho i havent told the hubby about that one yet! its not that i could not find a baby to rescue, it was the fact that so many of the rescues i did find cost a ridiculous amount of money. i was just saddened by it and by my lack of financial resources. oh, and btw, the emergency money i spoke of, well it DID get spent this week. all of it. my washer died and i had to go buy a new one. |

I got Prince from a breeder and he cost me a little over $900.00. But I thought if you adopted a dog from a shelter they only charged no more than $150.00. One of my Dad's friend adopted a dog { a border collie who was 6 months old} at a shelter and she only paid $25.00 dollars for her. If you really want to adopt this dog maybe you could talk with the people at the shelter and make some kind of arrangement with them. Like if they would cut the price of the adoption fee in half that you would come in when you have free time and do some volunteer work with the animals in the shelter. |

THE NAME OF THE WEBSITE I LOOKED AT THAT HAD THE CRAZY PRICES WAS FIRST COAST SHITZUS FURBABIES. IT IS IN FLORIDA, WHICH IS A HOP AND SKIP FROM ME. SAME AREA THAT BRUTUS IS IN. http://www.shihtzuandfurbabyrescue.com/available/ricky_rt.html THIS IS THE BABY I FOUND THAT I WAS SO SAD OVER BECAUSE OF THE PRICE Our veterinarians are generous and loving professionals, who support our efforts. In order to pay them, we must ask for an "adoption fee" or "adoption donation." These range from $200 to $550. Most adults, 2 years or older, are $250 - $350. Pups younger than 2 years old are usually $300-$550. THIS IS ON THEIR ADOPTION PROCESS PAGE. SINCE HE IS YOUNGER THAN 2 YEARS, THE $300-$550 WOULD APPLY. |

CHARLIE (AKA "HUBBY") SAID IF SHE WILL ACTUALLY GO DO IT AND CALL HIM BACK AND LET HIM KNOW SOMETHING, HE WILL GO DOWN THERE FOR ME NEXT FRIDAY!! KEEP THE FINGERS CROSSED. IF SHE DOESNT GO, THEN I WILL GO GET LOST IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA TO SEE THOSE BABIES. I HAVE RATTIE FEVER. |

RATTIES ARENT TOO POPULAR IN MY AREA, BUT I HAVE FOUND ONE PERSON WITH SOME PUPS TO SELL. NOW I HAVENT SEEN THEM YET. BUT I AM SUPPOSED TO MEET WITH HER SOMETIME NEXT WEEK. I JUST REALLY FEEL LIKE INSTEAD OF BUYING A PUP, I SHOULD RESCUE. RIGHT NOW I AM JUST SEEING WHATS OUT THERE, BUT I WILL DEFINITELY BE GETTING ONE SOON! |

oooh...BRUTUS?? he needs a home...i have met him and had a TERRIBLE time deciding between him and "hawkeye" from that litter..... We ended up getting Hawkeye and renamed him Toa. You can see him in my avatar. Also "Rattigan's mom" Janie and "Philo" Phil on this site have Cameo from that litter and my mom "terirsh" Teri has Sasha. All the stories i have heard the pups are WONDERFUL!!! Have you heard anything back about Brutus? Molly the mommy is also a beautiful happy girl! |

THE HUBS CALLED HIS MOM AND ASKED HER IF SHE WOULD GO CHECK THINGS OUT FOR US. SHE LIVES IN JACKSONVILLE AT THE BEACHES AND IT WOULD BE MUCH EASIER FOR HER TO LET ME KNOW WHERE THE HE!! I AM SUPPOSED TO BE GOING WHEN I CAN GET DOWN THERE. SHE HAS NOT CALLED US BACK TO TELL US ANYTHING, WHICH I AM NOT SURPRISED. RIGHT NOW I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A 9 DAY STRAIGHT WORK WEEK, AND HAVE NOT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO DOWN THERE. SO, PROBABLY WEDS OR THURS I AM GOING TO GET A FRIEND TO RIDE DOWN THERE WITH ME, SINCE SHE KNOWS THE AREA FAIRLY WELL AND IS WILLING TO DRIVE ON THE BRIDGES. I HATE BRIDGES. JUST KEEP YOU FINGERS CROSSED THAT MAYBE FATE WILL SMILE ON A PUP AND SEND HIM OR HER MY WAY . .... |

I might be wrong but I think Brutus has been adopted. Only saying because I'm part of the transport team taking him to his new family in Wake Forest next weekend. But - Ratbones has plenty of other ratties that need homes! |
