I wanted to share.... some of you may know... Brad has wanted an English Bulldog his entire life. Since he will be 30 in May, his Mom has offered to get him one. We're planning on finding a breeder and getting a male as a puppy that he can name Boomer. Anyhow, Brad has been on the Lone Star Bulldog website everyday looking at the bulldogs. Yesterday he came across SHELBY and has basically fallen in love with her. He thinks she's perfect, has a perfect temperment with kids and other pets. So I get to work this morning and he calls and announces that he did it. He submitted the adoption paperwork first thing this morning! He wants Shelby! Yall, check her out!

I am a lil concerned about the demodex mange on her feet, I wonder if it's contagious and whether Zoey or Keena (the cat) could get it?

I'm so excited, yet I'm so scared... I don't want Zoey to hate us for bringing in another dog... this is why we discussed getting a puppy.... she's posessive of me... so I guess if Shelby comes home to us, I will be showing Zoey extra extra amounts of love so she will know that she's still my #1!

Oh, Shelby is adorable Yay!!!! I'm so glad he's adopting (rattie or not!) That's fantastic.

"Don't borrow trouble" my grandmother would have said. Zoey may surprise you! BUT I would try and introduce them on neutral territory first and while Zoey may be "yours" and Shelby may be "his", you are all going to be one pack in the dog's minds so they will have to learn to coexist.

That's great that he's adopting and Shelby looks so cute! I like bulldogs, most of them seem so sweet.

Shelby is awesome!! I am soooo very happy you guys are rescueing instead of going through a breeder too, it is so rewarding!!

You are so funny, your post reminds me of myself when I was driving to get Alice. What if Fred hates her, what if this and that. Fred was very possesive of my, always on my lap or by my side and I worried how the dynamic of another dog would affect that. Sometimes they try to muscle each other out for my lap and sometimes they ignore me. You will know it's okay when he and Zoey are chumming around together. There is always a transitional period but it can all work out forsure. Remember Zoey will feed off of you so as long as you are relaxed and happy so will she. Dogs are amazing, most of the things we worry about are just a waste of time!! Keep us posted!

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Congrats! I hope you guys get her.

Demodex mange is NOT contagious, however you may notice her scratching at it and losing fur. The borax solution helps this a lot! Nibbler has it, and at first we did pills, but after using the borax solotion, it's much better.

Awe, she looks so sweet.  I love Bulldogs too.  I wanted one (a female so I can name her Georgia....I'm a big Georgia Bulldog fan) but they're so expensive.  We wanted a puppy and we shopped for several different breeds when we came across Dink (our rat terrier) and fell in love with him.  I've learned so much from this site and have really fallen in love with this breed.

Anyhoo, sorry to go off subject....I hope Brad (and you) get her....make sure you update us and post some pics.

Good luck!

Good Luck!!  I hope it all works out

English bulldogs happens to be one of my favorite breeds.....  My sister has one and oh my gosh, i just love her!   my sister's dog, Katie, and my dog, Kasey gets along so well, and play "keep away" and "chase" when we visit together.....

Katie licks her legs alot, out of nervousness....   I am not sure why, but she'll keep licking her leg and makes her legs raw.... poor girl!!

and my brothers has 2 english bulldogs, but I haven't been able to visit them or their dogs too much, and i guess one of his dogs, i can't remember which one, either sophie or maggie gets nervous being around kids. and the other doesn't like "other" dogs too well.......  but they are cute...

I was interested in getting an english bulldog a long time ago... till i saw the price!    So i ended up with a rat terrier instead!

Someday,  i might get an english bulldog, but then I like dobermans too!!  and my husband likes golden retrievers..... but I can almost guarantee one thing, I'll always have a rattie around!!  I am on my 2nd and 3rd!!

That's great! They really are cute dogs. Just remember that an adult that has demodex may have a compromised immune system for some reason. She is in rescue so the stress of whatever she has been through may be all it is, but in most cases, adult dogs don't get demodex as their immune system fights it off.(so Zoey should be fine) Puppies get it because they haven't gotten strong enough to fight it off yet. Good Luck, she is sweet!
