These are all reasons that people have turned their dogs into rescue on some of our forms:

DOGS:

He was so cute as a puppy, but he's gotten ugly and big (pure-bred Basset Hound)

Barks

Has fleas

Whimpers at night (locked in storage room at night)

Chews

Won't stay off the furniture

Pregnant

Pees when he is excited (four years old, not neutered)

Girl friend hates dogs

Digs

Slobbers too much

Sheds

New baby on the way

Moving

Eats too much

Spouse hates dogs

Runs along the fence and now no grass grows there

Wants to sit in my husband's lap and he can't stand the dog

Barks during the day (German Shepherd chained outdoors on a 6' chain leash)

We don't stay home much

Bites young son (after stating son pulls ears and tail)

Boy friend loves dogs, but hates this one

Growls and bites (trained as a guard dog)

Grandmother won't visit us because she's scared of him

Sleeps too much (12 years old)

Don't have time to walk her because we both work during the day

She's gotten pregnant twice in one year

Mean

He's constantly embarrassing us by humping (two years old, not neutered)

Vet says she needs more surgery

Demands too much attention

Eats too much since he turned nine months old (Great Dane)

His ears are too long - have to clean them every time he eats (poodle in dire need of grooming and defleaing)

His bark is irritating

She has too many puppies at each birth (four years old, six litters)

Neighbors complain because he digs in their yard

They poop too much (two medium sized dogs)

Moving into our dream house we had built

Our house is too small

Last vet said we need to bring him in more often; had no idea it costs so much

Runs away from home too much - outside dog

Eats the newspapers of our neighbors

Chases cars

Is a messy eater

Installed new carpeting

Can't afford the food

Has become blind

Growls at my mother

Won't walk any more (severe case of arthritis)

Barks outside our window at night trying to get our attention at bedtime

Neighbor doesn't like her

We take a lot of vacations

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

People make me sick!    Do they think raising a dog is easy???!!!! My Indie was turned in because the previous owner said that the other dogs didn't like him.   They only had Indie from when he was 8 weeks till he was 11 weeks!

These people disgust me. One of my co-workers just adopted a beagle puppy. You know why it was turned in to the shelter? It ate their "stuff"......why didn't they crate it??????????

There are all kids of excuses. Some just don't make any sense.

One time I had to find a new home for two of our dogs. (please don't think bad of me......) I brought two lab puppies home without talking to hubby about it first. He was NOT pleased and said they could not stay. However, I did not take them to a shelter. I found a home on a farm that they could both go to and stay together with lots of room to run and play. They are both doing well and are well loved at their new home.

I guess Ron White is right "You Can't Fix Stupid!" The nerve of some people.

Sarah, you did right for the dogs hubby wouldn't let you keep. And you also know that they are happy and healthy and well cared for. No one would think bad of you for that. I've had to find homes for my cats when I could no longer keep them. It breaks your heart to do it but at least you know how they are. You wouldn't have left them there if it had turned out to be a bad home for them.

I think the worst part of this whole thing is that most dogs are reacting to a situation the owner puts it in. UGH, how many of these can just be avoided!!

Just a few of my point of views.... (YOU is NOT directed at anyone here)

#1. He was cute as a puppy....I'm sure you were cute as a baby & look at you now! not so cute any more are you??

#2. Barks.... I'm sure you would "voice" too if ignored all the time & full of energy with no outlet

#3. Has Fleas....Have you never heard of Flea Spray or Frontline Plus??

#4. Whimpers at night.... Maybe you should have thought of crating the puppy/dog in the bedroom with you

#5. Chews... A KONG or other type of safe chew toys would have helped occupy a "teething" puppy or bord dog..Training also helps A LOT!

#6. Pregnant .... Well since dogs have NO clue about birth control it IS your resposiblity to have HER spayed!

Skipping Pees when excited..too many answers

#7. Girlfriend HATES dogs.... Get RID of the girlfriend...she probably isn't worth having any way!

I could keep going but wont. I hate to hear/see these types of excuses why people get rid of their dogs or animals in general. This just proves how ignorate our society is when it comes to the welfare of animals.

When you own a Rattie....you KNOW you are in your right mind

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
