Poor little baby I'm not sure what resources are available in Arkansas. A lot of the Southeastern states have a high number of ratties in kill shelters Hopefully someone will see her and take her home before her time is up.

Arkansas is a major puppy mill state so unfortunately rat terriers end up in the shelters a lot.

(I have two rat rescues)

more rescue info:

Out-of-Area Adoption & Rescue Procedures

If you are out of the area, and are interested in adopting or rescuing an animal from LRAS, one of the following local rescue groups would be happy to assist you. Please don't forget to provide the LRAS animal ID number.

The cost to adopt/rescue an animal involves the vetting fees, boarding costs (sometimes free fosters are available, or reduced rate boarding), and transportation. The transportation cost depends on where you are located, and can involve a volunteer ground transport, paid ground transport (usually around $125 to the NE US), or air transportation (ask the rescue group that is assisting you for details, but this may be in the range of ~$125 and up).

If you are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, you may be able to pull animals directly from LRAS.

Here are the LRAS requirements:
You must provide LRAS with proof of your organization's 501(c)(3) status.
You must provide LRAS with a copy of your organization's mission statement. It must state that your organization's purpose is to rescue animals from animal shelters.
You must have a local representative (in Pulaski County, Arkansas). If you do not meet these requirements (for example if you do not have non-profit status, or you do not have a local representative in Pulaski County):
You may contact one of the local rescue groups to assist you.
They will want to verify you are a legitimate rescue organization, and discuss the financial aspects of rescuing from LRAS.
Please don't forget to provide the LRAS animal ID number.

Note that for rescue groups as well as adopters, unsterilized animals must be sterilized. There are no exceptions. Proof of sterilization MUST be sent to LRAS within five (5) business days of rescue, unless a waiver is signed by an Arkansas veterinarian saying the animal is too young or too sick to be sterilized at time of rescue. The waiver must be sent to LRAS and should include the date when the animal can be expected to be sterilized. The proof of sterilization needs to be sent within five (5) business days from that date.

Ok, now I'm kinda upset... Rat Terrier ResQ was helping me out with this little guy, and they found out that this shelter is not rescue friendly! That means they'd rather not have a rescue group interfere with their adoptable animals.

I'm going to try and contact this shelter again tomorrow morning and see if this little guy is still there. Or if any of you want to try, you might get to it before me being that I'm on Pacific time...

Ok, I finally got through! They said that she is a cutie pie, and she is still there. And they said that they would be willing to work with rescue organizations. She said there are quite a few shelters in this area that won't, and one that they are affiliated with actually doesn't, so it must have been a situation of Rat Terrier ResQ must have heard that from the other place, like a mis-communication or something...

Anywho.... she's there! And that do not have a euthanization date set for her yet, which is good... but they said that could change any day, which is bad.

Kim,

My experience is that shelters welcome rescue's help. They may want to keep a dog up for adoption for a certain time, and if not adopted, then give it to rescue, but I find it hard to believe that a shelter would rather euthanize a dog than give it to a rescue who is willing to help! JMHO of course... every shelter I've worked with are extremely grateful for our offer to help!

I just received an update from the shelter about this pupper   At least she's not in danger of being pts... hopefully she will find a loving home soon though, she's adorable!!

"The puppy in question is still here and has been for a while. We will continue holding her until she is adopted. Please come and see her. I’m sure if you see her, you will probably fall in love."
