Hi, I am new to this site as of this evening, so I am not sure where to look or post, but, I am looking for a new little Rattie companion for my dad.  He moved away awhile ago and has been very sad and lonely since he has not been around our little rattie girl.... I am looking for a younger new little friend to keep him company. (he really LOVES the rat terriers ) He has lots of land so there are loads of areas for play, exploration and ooooodles of critters to encounter.  I have been out of work for a little over a year now so cant pay much for a rehoming/adoption fee....If anyone can point me in the right direction or knows anyone who is looking for a good home for their little friend please let me know.....

Thank you very much!!

Lyzzie

Hello! And welcome

I would check http://www.petfinder.com/ for ratties in your area. The adoption fee varies. Also http://www.ratbonerescues.com/. Adoption fee there is $150 - $200.
http://www.craigslist.org/ May also have some ratties in your area, just need to look under the pets.
Hope this helps, and good luck finding a little baby!!

There is a listing for an approximately 2 year old male rattie (Tony) on Petfinder, but there's no photo available. He is at the San Diego County Dept. of Animal Services. Their adoption fee for dogs is usually $69.00, but they are reducing it by half through the end of January! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, spay or neutering, medical and behavior evaluation, identification micro-chipping and, for dogs residing in the Department’s service area, a one-year free license. Here is the link:

They also have this 3 year old available. His name is Max:

Max is a neutered, 3-year-old rat terrier. He is waiting for your visit at San Diego County's SOUTH shelter and his ID Number is A1108004, Tag S741, Kennel 132. The adoption fee for all shelter pets is half-price through the end of January! The fee includes spay/neuter, vaccines, and micro-chipping. For more details, please contact: 5821 Sweetwater Road Bonita, CA 91902-2219 (619) 263-7741 www.sddac.com Hours at all County shelters are: Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Closed Sundays, Mondays and Holidays

This cute guy is available at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society. Their fees are $90 plus $10 for microchipping:

Pet Photo  Beaker

Beaker is a sweet, friendly, and outgoing guy who is looking for his forever home. As you can see from his picture, Beaker loves to play fetch. He loves to play with just about any toy you give him. He is an exuberant dog that just wants an active adult home to call his own. He also enjoys the company of other dogs. Beaker does have a cuddly side too. He loves attention and will curl up in your lap or rather jump into your lap and lavish you with kisses. All Beaker wants is someone to love him and of course have a good throwing arm for endless games of fetch.

Beaker weighs 18 pounds.

Good luck to your Dad, I'm sure he can find a little rattie that needs a great home. Please stick around and join in here with stories and pics of your rattie too!!!

I had the same dilema a few weeks back.    I got lots of wrong information and basically lied to.  I drove 2 hours one time to look at a Rat, but that was actually a 30 pound mix of something.   I wound up going to a breeder to look at her stud and female, but got a 4 month puppy instead.

Getting a 2nd rat is the best decision I every made.  Becareful, bring a friend to help you be objective and think with your head before your heart.  Be patient, I looked for 2 months and 6 dogs before we found a perfect mate.

Lyzzie, I hope you find the perfect pup for your dad!! Please try to go the rescue route first. You'll save a life, and an older dog might be best for your dad, instead of a puppy. Even if it is a rattie/mix. They need homes too! Good luck and keep us posted.

There are always many in need of homes due to irresponsible breeders and pet owners that want the perfect dog with out the work. Sad.
