Just wondering if anyone has used flight as transport when adopting a Rattie? What are the costs etc.? Just for future reference I'm sure it would be a bit different because I'm in Canada, but would like some sort of guideline. Thanks!

I've not used it personally, but believe typically (in the U.S.) it runs around $125 - $175, but there are some others who might have a better guess. Now to Canada, I have no idea. Are there more stringent rules about bringing in an animal??

Hi Tracy,

I don't know if we've flown a dog to Canada, but usually we fly dogs Delta and it normally costs between $150-$175US.  Only negative thing with Delta is that if it's colder than 40 degrees or hotter than 80 degrees, they won't fly the dog.  (I believe those are the limits).

Continential also flies dogs, but it's more expensive because they have a temperature-controlled cargo area - but the dogs can fly  no matter what the temp is outside.  Those flights usually run $225US or so.  The only thing about Continential is that they don't fly out of every airport.

Hope this info helps!

I wonder if Ratbone or anyone would help the cost or reimburse? I know some rescue organizations that would help with these costs as well too.

To tell you the truth I'm not sure about the rules concerning animals brought into Canada. I do have a vet in NY state, and I am able to take my pets back and forth as long as they have the required vaccinations(rabies)..... I'll have to do some research on that one.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for the info. It does help.  I am not far from Syracuse, about 2 hrs., so flying in there could also be an option.

Ratbone will pay to fly shelter dogs to fosterhomes to save their lives, but if someone adopts from us, it’s usually their responsibility to pay for the flight if a ground transport is not possible.
