I read that awhile back and cried and cried and cried some more... I was really into animal issues as a teenager and volunteered at the HS and such, then I went many, many years without any pets but since getting Yogi, it's brought it all back and then reading things like this makes me want to help as much as I can.

I've read this before, but I still cry everytime I read it. And now I have to go hug my Niko.

That was the saddest most aweful thing I've ever read!!!! I must look like an idiot at work half way balling at my computer. I so just want to go home and hug my babies!!!! My cat is a rescue and I am attempting to rescue the 7 strays I have living on my back porch. I feed and water them because I saw them eating the birdseed that had fallen out of our bird feeder. I went straight to the store and bought them food. I wanted to call animal control but I know they will be killed so I keep feeding them and trying to get close hoping one day I can be in tremendous debt to my vet and get them the care and home they deserve. This kind of passage always leave you asking "What else can I do to help?" I donate food and supplies to the NO KILL shelters around here that are full to the max with animals they can barely care for. GOD BLESS anyone who works at a shelter it is truely a job I couldn't do...too much heartache!

Oh my that was so sad I could never ever get rid of my pets no matter what. It really makes you wonder just how many times a day this story comes true for some poor innocent animal. I understand situations change and people have to make decisions but I could never take my pet to animal shelter.

I read that before. Mad me cry...
We always think that we will not have to make a decision like that. We will never get laid off from work, we will never have to move, we will never have to go through a family tragedy...we will never be have to decide weather or not to let our furkiddies go.
It's nice that there are sites like this and rescues like Rat Bones give people the ability to find another loving home or put them into foster care, instead of having to leave them in a shelter were more than likely they will be put to sleep.
Thanks to all of you who are involved in rescue and are able to give dogs a second chance!

I read it before we rescued Nibs, but it brings back memories of when I was 5 and my dad was being transferred overseas. We had to find a home for my beloved cocker spaniel. I hated my dad then, but when re returned stateside we got a dog from the pound in her last days. The helped some, but as i have matured I realize my dad was a great man for doing what he did and am glad we rescued our little guy - with all his behavior problmes and all. I'd run and give him a big hug, but he was never properly socialized and does not care much for big hugs!
