Hi,

I'm Amber. My husband and I have been looking to adopt a male or female rattie for about 5-6 months now we havn't really had any luck. About a year or so ago we baught a Teacup Rattie for $150. We wondered why she was so cheap but never asked we didn't care a week later she died of kidney problems so there was are answer!!!!! We were crushed!  . I live in Stonington IL. So if anyone knows of any around this area that is great with kids please let me know. Also age is not a problem!

Thanks So Much.

Amber and Matt,

Have you looked at www.ratbonerescues.com? I am a foster mom in Georgia and there are always ratties in IL and WI. You can also get one transported to you via ground (within 600 miles) or fly him/her in at your expense. If you have any questions feel free to email me at smiles4lifepkn@yahoo.com.

All Ratbone dogs are Up to date on shots and spayed or neutered.

I know you will find the right rattie for your family!

Yes, I definitely recommend Ratbone Rescues...we got Ms. Mocha there and couldn't be happier. Adoption fee was $150. She came from Hammond, IN which is about 30 miles from Chicago from what I understand.

Like the others have said, try Ratbone Rescues.. You also might want to look on petfinder.com - I check that website daily for ratties in my area

Good luck in finding a new babe!!!

Oh yes we want to know which you applied for. Rattie stories are the best!

That is crazy that they didn't tell you about her health issues. People can be very strange and for us common sense folk we cannot understand why they do what they do.

Congrats on taking the first step to adopting a rescue!

WOW!!! So glad you're looking to adopt Can't wait to hear how the process goes...There's a sweet little girl in Florida (Aimee) at Ratbones who sounds like the absolute perfect dog for a family. I keep waiting to see that an adoption is pending for her, but nothing so far I know she's quite the distance from you, though they do offer transport options.

Also, if you go to www.petfinder.com and type in your criteria and location, you'll find a list of ratties that need adopted. There are really quite a few in your general area

This guy is in Logan County Animal Control (general county "pounds" are kill shelters with limited space). He looks like a "pure" rattie to me!

I think Mocha might have been before my time. I adopted my first 2 yrs ago and then in September started fostering. Sammy Davis will by flying from Atlanta to Littleton, MA. He has taught me a lot about ratties who do not have a lick of training before coming into foster care. Now he is such a sweetie pie. I have had him since October. He is my 2nd foster. Watching them grow and learn due to your heard work is really amazing since Ratties are so smart!

How is Mocha doing? When did she join your family? Is she the big one up close in the pic of the lil one?

That is super duper news. Paula -- how do you keep from getting attached? I'd want to keep them all !

Its impossible to not get attached! I have 4 of my own so that helps, but my goal when starting to foster was to save lives. If I kept another I could not foster. 5 is plenty! My first one was perfect. If anyone remembers Deano from the Ratbone Site. He was so wonderful and I cried 4 times that weekend. I also do follow up calls for Ratbone adoptions and that helps me because the majority of humans are soooooooooooooo happy with their babies that I know it is all worth it.

You have to set your mind to the goal and go for it! It is so worth the tears.

Mocha's the little one in the back, we have had her since November 9th. She was in Indiana...Hammond to be exact. She flew to us here in Texas. She's 12# of pure joy! She was very apprehensive and scared when we first got her, especially of my husband, but I am happy to say that all of her issues are resolved now. She is happy to be a part of our pack, and is IN LOVE with my husband now. Vino is the big boy in the front. We have had him since he was 12 weeks old. We got him from a breeder. He is our first "baby" and a true joy. Vino and Mocha absolutely LOVE each other. She has been an incredible addition.

Well I just got home and Checked my e-mail and she was very interested in which one we wanted and our choice was Chico. It says on there that he is a little rough with kids but were hoping if we get him that maybe we can work with him on that. I wanted "Wally Wagtail" lol but we both agread on Chico. So hopefully I will find out more soon.
Thank you all so very much for you help!!!

Yeah for Chico! I think if you enroll him in some training classes right when you get him you will get a lot of tips on how to work with him so he will be a great success story!

Keep in touch because as said before we love hearing about these stories!

Have a great weekend.
